thyroid?: so the swelling under my jaw could be... - Thyroid UK
thyroid?
Hi For the thyroid be sure to have tSH, T4 and Free T3 done, on line if GP will not. For the symptoms in the neck ask for an ultrasound. tHis is important. You may well have nodules etc, which although quite common, still need a fine needle biopsy done by a radiologist under an ultra sound ( second one).

hi Jackie.thanks I realy appreciate any advice given,i will check thes e against my blood tests results when I egt them.my dr said i ahd tests in july but he never actullay told me he wa s testing thyroid.i wsa going to ask him for a scan yesterday wheni saw him buthe was goign on about me niot goign on the internet .he has neve rn mentione d nodules and just said in the beginning that my lumps were nomral and ther from birth(????).even yesterday wheni said my neck wa sswollen and you could see "it move"(whewr my thyroid is)wheni couhgted toshow him. I said you ddi that last time and said it ws ok the cough is from my hroat
Hi Do insist with the gP, just in case, enlargement and nodules are common if autoimmune.. Also a lot only test for TSH now, costs mainly , which is useless. All ranges for bloods at most Labs vary so ranges important. Ask receptionist for print out. You should do this for any blood test and keep. often GP normal" is not our "normal".
Best wishes,
Jackie
I had a lump in my neck, under my jaw, for over two years. Sometimes it would swell and be very tender, accompanied by flu-like symptoms.
I was told it was nothing to do with my thyroid, but pressed for ultrasound, which came back negative. I then saw an ENT man who said that it was caused by acid reflux and advised me to take Gaviscon!
In the end it was so big that I couldn’t turn my head properly and other people could feel it, although apparently doctors couldn’t.
It disappeared overnight after my first dose of thyroxine and has not returned.
Exactly my problem (started late last year)... from my own knowledge of anatomy I can see no reason why my right sub-maxillary lymph node should swell with thyroid issues, (had thyroiditis, probably viral) and had to agree with GP and a Consultant, but it did, and took some time to shrink too after I reinstated NDT (Had ultrasound, btw), as well as discomfort in thyroid area. Although it is still slightly raised it has almost gone.
Have the tender throat for some years, have the cough, have had the ultrasound..where they found the nodules..(but arent going to do anything about them). Have had 3 x parathroids out...and still feel ****.
I do have kidney stones...which will be sorted shortly.
What I am thinking...is all this connected?? Answers on a postcard....
got a feeling my dr wont send me fro an ultrasound if I asked him.
