Pre period fatigue.

Hi,

I was wondering if any other ladies out there are having the same issues as me. I'm Hypothyroid, my GP is wonderful, I had a full panel of bloods done at my last test and all smack in the middle, so we seem to have it balanced. I feel pretty good most of the time, more energy now, hair is thicker, eyebrows improved ect.

The only problem is my periods are very heavy, and a few days before I feel exhausted, just like the beginning, soon as period is finished I feel fine again. My GP tried to sort a Mirena coil for me, but I have to go to hospital for that.

Any similar experiences out there ?

Thank you in advance. X

Yes, I am the same until it starts. I usually get a migraine type headache at the onset too and insomia the night before. I found progesterone only pill helped me and taking magnesium at night. Things are a little better since sorting out my thyroid though.

Thanks for your help.

I'm two days late and SO tired. I'm hoping the coil will help, my GP thinks it will. No more periods, no more problems hopefully.

I can't sleep either. I have been given Mefanamic acid in the mean time.

Who would be a woman eh ? Lol. X

You might find that a magnesium supplement will help with the cramps and the insomnia. It seems to help me. I don't fancy the coil myself but I do know women who get on very well with it. It scares me a tiny bit, lol.

It would also be a good idea to check your serum iron and ferritin as low iron is common in hypothyroid sufferers and also in women who have heavy periods. Low iron can actually cause menstrual problems too, so it's a vicious circle. Low iron can also affect how well your convert your thyroxine to it's active form and also how well your cells can use the thyroid hormones so it is an important one to monitor.

For most people who are hypothyroid, a ferritin level of 70-90 usually leaves people feeling well.

Hi I am also finding this. migraine, heavy periods, cramps, fatigue. was diagnosed 12 weeks ago but this has been happening for last few months.

It is probably thyroid related. You might also want to check your serum iron, which should be well within range, and your ferritin (stored iron) which many hypothyroid people find is best between 70-90. Hopefully it eases up as you get to the right dose of your thyroxine.

Things will get better, once they get your dose right. I've just got there myself, and on the whole starting to feel more like my old self ! Apart from the monthly thing, which I hope will be sorted soon !!!!! Good luck sweetheart, it's a bit of a hill to climb! Xx hang in there Ruby. !
