Hi Cat69

Yes I am seeing some gradual improvement thanks to Dr P. He has given me a chance of getting my life back on track and without his input I dread to think where I'd be. I have been off work ill since 2010 and was told by NHS all tests 'normal' despite becoming increasingly disabled and my ever so obvious debilitating hypothyroid symptoms. In the end I was given a diagnosis of CFS/ME by the NHS in Sept 2011 and referred to local CFS Clinic in Jan 2012. I did everything by the book and got worse. Bed bound and at times unable to even open my eyes and speak just a few words. Just awful.

In the end I paid for private tests via Genova and then went to see Dr P in Dec 2012 who diagnosed hypothyroidism and told me my adrenals were completely shot. He thought I had probably had a damaged thyroid since childhood and my adrenals had become similarly damaged. I have to say it's not been easy and it took quite a while for my body to accept any thyroid hormone (probably being without for so long) but I have very gradually built up to 50mcgs of t3 and will very slowly keep increasing. I know I have quite a way to go but gosh I am no longer bed bound and have done things this year which I simply couldn't have done last year or the year before. (I should probably write a post about this as it may offer hope and encouragement to others) This is something which at one point I just couldn't see happening but I'm very slowly heading in the right direction and I have to say that's thanks to Dr P giving me the diagnosis and a treatment plan. It's also down to the fact that he empowers you to read and learn as much as you are able to and to really get to know and understand your body and that you know yourself better than anyone else. Not easy with a foggy brain but a necessity on this journey to better health.

Dr P is lovely and will listen so make sure you tell him absolute everything and write down as much info for him as possible though I know that's difficult when feeling so ill. I also highly recommend Dr James Wilsons book Adrenal Fatigue the 21st Century Stress. Full of really useful information for healing the adrenals, especially about what we eat and the timing of when we eat and how this effects are adrenals, amongst other vital pieces of information. Whilst you are waiting for the book to arrive you could take a look at his website adrenalfatigue.org/

Wishing you lots of good luck

One of our members, who has multiple auto-immune conditions, has been helped a lot by Dr P. She is on holiday at present.

Tears Behind Closed Doors is an autobiography of Diana Holmes' life of years of illhealth and was finally diagnosed by Dr P. You may be able to borrow a copy from Thyroiduk.org. It is well worth a read.

Definitely I have been gradually improving since 2009 when I first saw him and understand the situation so much better. He has enabled both myself and my son to take the initiative and to lead our own recovery - we are very different patients but he has certainly helped us both.

Take any info you can e.g. typical blood pressure readings, blood test results, temperatures early morning daytime and evening but without putting yourself out too much. A list of signs symptoms and family history might be helpful.

It'll be worth it!

Thank you everyone. So great to hear you all improving albeit over time. Have filled out his paperwork and its boring me now, all the symptoms, let alone family who must be fed up with hearing about them!!

Yes pulse not easy to find but taking temps (always below 96.3) and recording everything.

I will look up all the links and report back after meeting.

Thanks again

I just saw him last week. He said that I was not converting the T4 and it was pooling,

I have been on 150 T4 and a little T3, he told me to halve the T4 - I was terrified - but I'm glad I trusted him because my pain which I have been putting up with for over 60 years even when I was supposedly 'well' has suddenly been almost taken away.

I am following his advice to the letter, and hope it will resolve my adrenal problems and help me to recover. So far, so good, even though it's early days. Just being pain-free some of the time is the best thing in years for me. I start Nutri-adrenal tomorrow.

I will keep updating too.
