Has anyone found a diet for underactive thyroid problems, that actually works? If so what is it please! Also has anyone tried this XLS medical tablets that they advertise on the TV, that are supposed to help you lose three time more weight, if taken whilst on a diet. x

A Successful Diet
I have found sticking to white meat, fish vegetables and fruit with only 60g of pasta or rice or potatoes. In my case gluten free as I am coeliac with no processed foods at all works for me. I do use olive oil but have also cut out cheese and eggs as my cholesterol and triglycerides are high. So far I have lost 20 kilos.
I have hypo never really had weight trouble.
I have studied nutrition before , personally i would never put anything in my body i dont need e.g diet pills they put all kinds in them.
I like to look at it as a healthy eating regime a way of life not a diet.
I know it obvious but i would recommend not eating after 7 or 8pm at night .
Have a nice big healthy breakfast i will normally have some natural live yogurt brazil nuts some cereal and fruit, hot water and lemon.
Vegetables are better than fruit less sugar , natural unproccessed meats, fish, rice, potatoes, veg, fruit .
Fats are good for you natural healthy fats are better for you.
One book friends have read is the harcombe diet.
yeah the Paleo diet! Watch it fall off! :0/

I managed to loose a couple of stone at the end of last year due to having putting on weight over the past few years. I saw it as not a diet but a lifestyle change. I just cut out rubbish although now I don't deny myself anything but just make sure I have anything in moderation. Although I used to go to the gym a lot I'd fallen into the habit of not working as hard as I should so now I make sure I put in a massive effort when I'm there.
I wouldn't touch any of those fat blockers (like XLS medical) with a barge pole. If you don't absorb fat from food, you won't absorb fat soluble vitamins like D3. Plus, the fat has to go somewhere - it goes straight through and out the other end undigested and sometimes (so I've heard), it doesn't wait for you to get to the loo. Ewwwww!!
i tried the XLS medical a few weeks ago, before i was diagnosed, and actually gained that week!! i think they may work for people with normal thyroids lol
You have put on weight because you are hypothyroid. You can lose some weight, but to be honest the most important thing is to be optimally treated.
Walking can assist in weight loss, so long as you can manage that, but do not be tempted to go on a restricted carbohydrate diet as it can affect your ability to convert T4 and could even lead to high levels of reverse T3.

There is some advice there on how to gradually start to reduce. I cannot vouch for this website, as I have only recently found this myself.
Friend who is 54 and 5"6 has told me today she is hypo and as I've just been diagnosed I was amazed as she's 8st 10lbs I'm 5" and I'm 8st so is it the meds that help increase your weight? Not sure I'll bother with them if that's the case. I did ask yesterday if anybody could explain the results of my function test!!! Anybody out there do that for me please.
