I was originally overactive and had radio-active iodine about 2.5 years ago. Have struggled to get my medication right and suspect it may still not be quite right - on 116 mcg of Eltroxin. Latest test results: TSH 0.09 (0.2 - 4.2) FT4: 26.7 (12 -22) FT3 4.5 (3.95 - 6.8). Generally my FT3 results have been at the low end.
Earlier this year I had a very bad viral infection (I think - that is what GP said) involving infection of middle ear and sinus problems. After this, I was left with what I would describe as low level catarrh - which is most troublesome at night. I was prescribed a cortisteroid nasal spray (Nasonex) which I have been on for over three months and seems to have had little effect. he also added in anti-hystamine spray which had no effect. My consultant has said only other treatment is an operation which I don't fancy at all.
My questions are: Is it possible my condition is being caused/exacerbated by my thyroid levels? Will my treatment have been affected by them? Any ideas on what else to try?

I had recurrent sinus issues and catarrh it's a common symptom of being hypo.
I have been told to stay off dairy (which is really hard) have to put KoKo milk in my tea and not eat chocolate which I would say was a staple in my diet.
Anyway, it's all cleared up... you could try 10 days of no dairy and see if it works, apparently becoming hypersensitive to wheat or dairy is very common and you can fix it if you stay away for 10 days, and then re-introduce very gently...
It may be that it is not so much your rhinitis that has caused your thyroid problems but that they are connected due to candida. Candida has been shown to be present in most sinus problems
I was origianlly overactive and had a total thyroidectomy. I have been plagued with nasal problems ever since, but the better my T3 levels are, the less it troubles me. Post-nasal drip is common, as is sleep apnoea.
A study carried out in 2010 by Günel C, Basak HS, Güney E, in Turkey suggests there is a positive correlation:
My consultant said that as my levels were in the normal range, thyroid was not likley to be the problem. Did you have my problems at my FT3 level of 4.5?
I have been wondering how best to improve my conversion of FT4 to FT3. I am picking up some blood test results tomorrow and will be asking another question on supplements
