Ok so I have recently started thyroxin (50mg), I take it at night. I have noticed a slight improvement in energy but it seems to be very up and down. I also notice when I feel very tired I get a dizzy feeling and have tremors in my hands.
Any suggestions?

Hi Thyroxine does take a while to work. It is best started slowly and then increased according to symptoms and blood tests ( Re test). make sure you have been tested for TSH, T4 and Free T3 for the correct treatment. It can get worse before it is better, often takes a year to be oK. However, also bear in mind that some people can be allergic to T4 and have to have alternative treatment. This is not the case from your description, at the moment and hopefully you will soon feel a lot better. Always ask the receptionist for a copy of all blood tests + ranges )( most differ at different Labs). Keep them for comparison.
Best wishes,
Jackie

Thank you Jackie, it so frustrating as I want to be better now! My kids think I am boring as I don't want to do anything and feel like my life is ticking away whilst I languish on the sofa.
Really want to be the energetic person I was.
You reply has given me hope, unfortunately patience is not my strength!!
Hi You will be with the right treatment, often it requires a fight but I was ill when mine were teenagers, as I could not get the treatment, rotten GPNow I am forceful when needed. Yor body you are the only one who really cares.
As Jackie said, your body is going through a huge revision. Your pituitary normally controls the thyroid stimulant and now it is being improvised by the outside thyroxine. All the receptors for T3 (well, I don't know what actually happens when you are becoming ill) but now they are hopefully receiving T3. It's needed in every cell of your body so it takes time to distribute. Hopefully in a few weeks you will notice quite a difference.
