If you read "The interpretation of thyroid function tests" by Colin M Dayan -link:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/115...

it seems that you could have hyperthyroidism requiring further investigation.

Bad link, try this: In search engine type "Interpretation of thyroid function tests" by Colin Dayan.

When the list of search result come up, click on the one headed in blue

Interpretation of Thyroid Function Tests - Keck School of Medicine of...

and the whole paper will appear. read without charge and print. Panel 2 and associated text might apply to your case.

Sorry about this

Hello nostoneunturned Looked that up. If it is Graves disease why is it never detected. I have had this for 18 years?

I am not a doctor, hence said "seems you could have hyperthyroidism" I was going by your seeming way out of range FT4, but it does look a bit confusing - units from result and range do not match. Can you check FT4 is accurate so you can then use Dayan's info better?

Looks like the TSH range has been repeated.

An FT4 value of 17 could be very high, middling or even below mid-point depending on reference range in use.

Results read Serum free T4 17pmol/L Range (9.00 - 24.00pmol/L)

Serum TSH level 0.07 mu/L (0.50 - 4.79mu/L)

Whole different ball game now, the FT4 is in the middle of the range. Most people feel best when it is nearer the top of the range. If you feel unwell might be undermedicated.

See Page 88 of A Toft's "Understanding Thyroid Disorders" £5 from Amazon.

Thanks Rod, thought there was something odd but I should have read more closely before answering.
