Yes it does - but you need to be aware that if your GP allows your TSH to go above 1 then your hypo symptoms could return with a vengeance. Having a TSH over 1 and certainly at the top of this range could leave you feeling very ill.

i have never asked for blood results before as until i joint this site i did not know you could,so am i right to say that the TSH 0.33 when it get to 100 it will be written as 1 thanks moggie x

No - a TSH of 1 will be written as 1.0 You are just in side the bottom of your range (which is very good) with a TSH of 0.33 and you, and your GP, would be best to keep it just as it is - that's if you are feeling o.k. A TSH of 100 would be unthinkable.

How much levothyroxine are you taking and how long have you been on it?

took carbinazole and levo for about 3 years for graves ,and was always well ,but bloods were done at hos every 4 to 6 wks,had total thyroidectomy 6yrs ago,and was put on levo then.Ihave never been on the same dose of levo for a year at a time ,just meds up and down ,but you just may have given me the answer to this, the endo puts me on the lower range , eg 0.04 then when the gp does bloods he as it between 0.20 -4.50,levo 75 but 8mths ago was on 150 and 125 alt days was quite fine until gp started lowering it,they told me in not so many words that they go by bloods and not how you feel,i have told the endo about them changing my dose all the time but they all just stick together .i have ted and the eye doc as written to both saying that they need to control my meds better. thanks x

It's very unfortunate for patients when doctors, who know absolutely nothing about metabolism, adjusts meds up or down according to the TSH. Your GP should follow the Endo's instructions. The following link may be informative and cursor to January 25, 2002 and there are other topics at the top

I have a similar problem in as much as both my GP and my endo have an input into my thyroid issues BUT my GP never over rides my endo.

Have you got another appt booked to see your endo? because it might be a good idea to get one and ask him to write to your GP stating that you need to be kept on a certain amount of levo. He doesn't have to been seen to be going against your GP just ask him to state clearly that he will set your medication amount and for it not to be altered. This is what my endo did and my GP has never tried to alter it.

If you have not, or can not get to see your endo anytime soon then I would write a letter stating the above and then draw his attention to the letter that your eye doctor has also written regarding your unstable condition. Make it quite clear that you want your thyroid condition managed by him, your endo alone. You might want to send a copy of the letter to your eye doctor as well so that he is kept in the picture.

Have you every tried ringing your endo and asking his secretary for a phone consultation. Tell her how ill and worried you are feeling and again mention your eye doctors concerns.

If all else fails then I would get in touch with the eye doctor again and tell him what is happening and see if he can help.

The lower the TSH generally the better you will feel.

Thats good advice,i think i have just gone alone with what ever they did as you think they got to be right,i got an appointment july and i am gonna tell him that i only want him to control meds ,and if i feel any worse will contact his secretary ,have only ever rang her once in the 9 yrs i have been going there ,but feel he might think i am a nuisance silly really,About bloods does it go then 0.99 then next 1.0

Yes that right it goes from 0.99 to 1.0.

I think the trouble you have is that your endo understands your condition but your GP doesn't and this is where it is going wrong for you so if you think you can hold on for another 3 months then by all means do that BUT if you are under medicated you will get worse and the longer its left the longer it will take your body to recover once it gets the correct dose of thyroid meds - just wanted to make you aware of that fact.

Please don't ever think you are being a nuisance when it comes to the NHS - the longer you sit back and wait the longer you will be unwell plus you haven't exactly made a pest of yourself with one phone call in nine years have you.

If I were in your shoes I would make the phone call anyway, if nothing else it will highlight to him that you are still having problems and it will lay the ground work for your request for him to be in sole charge of your meds. You never know he might even act straight away and write to your GP asking him to increase your meds.

Hi Lizzy,

Sorry its taken me a while to reply but I have no internet access at home, which means I have no access to this site over the weekend.

I'm glad I could help in some small way and I'm really pleased that you now don't feel so anxious about things.

Please do have a think over everything and maybe you'll then be in a better place to tackle your endo.

Please let us know how you get on wont you.
