Recent nhs blood tests

Hi could anyone give thoughts on recent blood tests please?

Just for context i am not diagnosed but due to high antibodies my gp does 6 monthly tests.

TSH 2.9 (0.20-4.50) T4 18(9-21)

Last 3 tests were

Aug 2020 TSH 2.5 T4 13

Feb 2021 TSH 2.8 T4 14

Aug 2021 TSH 2.2 T4 14

Is there any reason my t4 has jumped up to 18 now? I kind of expected it to be lower or maybe i just don't know anything about thyroid lol.

Just to add all tests done at 8.10 am with water only beforehand.

Ft4 and TSH are both pretty steady …..levels can hop around a lot

GP should also be testing vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

When were these last tested

Are you currently taking any vitamin supplements

Have you had coeliac blood test done too?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes tested negative for coeliac already.

I take vit d spray and igennus super b complex.

So those results don't indicate heading towards hypothyroidism?

I thought i read over TSH over 2.5 indicates that. Could be wrong though.

GP won’t usually diagnose until had two tests minimum 6 weeks apart with TSH is over 5 or Ft4 is below range

Remember to stop taking vitamin B complex a week before all blood tests

Important to test folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Test vitamin D twice year when supplementing

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

I had a full thyroid panel done in March 2020 all on my profile. Then covid hit and there was no nurse home visits.

Unable to do finger prick test.

I use the red spray 3 times a day.

I was curious about the t4 result being 18 as it's always hovered around 14/15 for 6 years+

Maybe it's irrelevant?

It’s likely to go up and down day by day …..might be relevant…..might not

Suggest you test vitamin D now …..just 4 drops blood on a card …very easy

Ok thanks.I have been vit d deficient in the past. Levels were 20

Gp said it was fine so i supplemented myself.

Also ferratin was as low as 15 again gp said fine as in range.

I know better now from this site ☺

So you DEFINITELY need to retest levels

Ferritin is deficient if under 30

GP should be doing full iron panel test for anaemia. Likely to need iron supplements

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Or heavy periods

Vitamin D

Vitamin D at under 25nmol GP obligated to prescribe a LOADING dose of total of 300,000iu vitamin D over 6-8 weeks

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol. Some CCG areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7. One spray = 1000iu

When vitamin levels are low/ deficient, TSH tends to reduce

With very low vitamin levels this suggests gluten intolerance

Sorry those results were back in 2018. After that i started supplementing myself and i raised my levels. March 2020

Ferratin 82(13-150)

Vit d 92

I will look into vit d test.

I found it odd i was deficient in vit d as i spent a lot of time in the sun.

No heavy periods

Not vegetarian or vegan.

Vitamin D deficiency is linked to Hashimoto’s

Macey2009 in reply toSlowDragon

Ah yes. That makes sense. That was around the time of my positive tpo test.

Was this from your recent tests with GP in Feb ?

Macey2009 profile image
Macey2009 in reply toSlowDragon

Sorry. No i corrected myself. I just meant in the past gp always says everything is fine if barely in range.

Hello , may I ask what you took to improve your ferritin .Mine has only gone up fro 11 to 15 in six months .Gp says it’s satisfactory?

Macey2009 profile image
Macey2009 in reply to4youreyesonly

I'm not sure actually how it started to rise. I hadn't really changed my diet.

It has seemed to fluctuate over the years. It was 15 on one test then on next test it had gone up to 55.

Sorry i can't advise you.

Not what you're looking for?
