I had my bloods done at my first midwife appointment and my b12 came back low.
the lab must have done further testing because another test came back called Methylmalonic Acid and the level shows at 677 which is very high? - does anyone know what this means and is it normal in pregnancy?

My personal take is that if it has already been determined that your B12 is low, you should have immediately been started on treatment. The question being whether that should be an injection or oral. And, also test for Intrinsic Factor antibodies (though that test often produces false negatives).
Hi ChloeEllen. Congrats on your pregnancy! Sometimes the Methylmalonic Acid is added to verify B12. High Methylmalonic Acid reveals a true B12 deficiency. My B12 isn't low, but is lower than optimal. I just got a bottle of sublingual B-complex drops to raise my levels.
Mine was as high as that, it means low B12. I also had enlarged red blood cells. I have to be on B12 injections. It is not good to be that high. Mine is now just scraping in at an 8 which is top of ok range.
Hi, no it is not normal and you should be given B12 injections frequently at least until MMA comes down, then regularly. The pregnancy may add to the high MMA, but in combination with low serum B12, you are deficient and the B12 needs treating. You do not want to be breastfeeding with a B12 deficiency. Best wishes
