I have discovered after ringing Asda they do the special script scheme the pharmacist has sourced me the T3 from another company not mercury pharma. They were very helpful and are even going to collect my script from the doctors surgery. The lady told me there are only 52 packets of T3 in the whole of the UK can you beleive that but they will re order. Once asda have you on computer they will always make sure you have your meds. So Asda is the way to go rather than ringing round as many chemists as you can manage OMG I hve visions of many sufferers in a manic frenzy such as I have been trying to source T3. Good luck everyone ring your local asda pharmacy. Lets hope this wont be an ongoing concern. The chemist also confirmed that this sort of thing is happening all the time of late and becoming more frequent not just for T3 but all other medications. Big Pharma grrrrr.
For those panicked sufferers on T3 Asda is the ... - Thyroid UK
For those panicked sufferers on T3 Asda is the way.
thank you Kezzerb, please everyone also read my blog which will explain what Kezzerb is talking about, what Kezzerb said is NOT something exclusive to ASDA but something ALL PHARMACIES IN THE UK ARE OBLIGED TO DO/have a legal responsability to do for you.
Problem Action Ressolve.
Now my whole morning or should I say day has been taken up pulling my hair out and trying to contain my annoyance at the drug company that supplies my meds on the telephone that took 9 telephone calls I can now get in the shower and wash my frustrations away. I can now see the funny side of it. However pharmecutical companies need a quick swift kick up the. !!!!!!
How frustrating!
I don't have T3 but have just moved my 'script to Asda from Boots as the sevice is so much better.
Can a GP prescribe T3 on NHS?
Mine does!
Thanks I have asked for a T3 test which I am having this am and a letter of referral to Dr S
polly3 but for how long that is the question.
Ah, this makes sense. This is why when I went to pick up my T3 from the dispensary at my Gp's they said they had been told it was out of stock and not told when they may have some more.
Luckily I took the script and my local chemist had some in stock. Going to read your blog now Nobodysdriving. Thanks
I picked my t3 up from gp dispensry yesterday...no one said anything!
polly they wouldn't unless you make them aware of it.
My perscriptions are dispensed on site at the doctors so would have thought they would have said something......ahh well we shall see!
Polly3 I phoned mercury pharma they confirmed all T3 including oral and injections are out of stock they could not even say when they would be available. I telephoned 9 chemist in Hereford all sid the same thing. I was lucky that Asda tracked some down for me. Best to inform your doctors surgery to make them aware as I did.
Just read on patient problem page a lady has commented that Mercury Pharma that supplies my thyroid tabs I depend on like all other sufferers do too. It will be three to four months before they will be available well you may as well double the length of time they have no compassion for human suffering people depend on them to survive. Arghhhhhhhhhhh I feel like standing outside Mercury pharma and protesting.
The whole sorry affair concerning T3 and shortage seems very odd to me.
Funny how asda in hereford can track some down and say they have ordered two boxes for me and when I asked are they coming from outside the country she said they are in a warehouse where they store them. Seems very odd to me.
I have just sent a request to 'Rip off Britain' to see if they will investigate this situation. Perhaps others here can do the same ! Ging
Well done ging I can understand your way of thinking.
Just to keep you up todate this is the link that clearly indicates that T3 is out of stock.
Link to all the different countries that provide liothyronine notice the different names.
My GP dispensary said that not only they haven't got any T3 but apparently their supplier hasn't got any either. I then went to Sainsbury's chemist who couldn't help either, phoned 3 different Boots out of which one said that they had 50 pills of 20mcg in stock but did tell me at the same time that their supplier is currently quoting them 2 weeks delivery time if they wanted to order more. Thank you for your blog, I will definitely try Asda chemist if I have a problem in the future (even though the nearest Asda to us is 13 miles).
sisa1975 I sympathise with your dillema it is a sorry state of affairs.
I only have one months supply myself and Asda confirmed to me today that I need to get intouch with my gp to arrange an alternative this is very worrying for many sufferers.
I suggest you get hold of the ones from boots that are available and get intouch with your GP to inform them of the situation.
I have found this all very confusing because how can Boots quote delivery and ordering if Mercury Pharma are totally out of stock and are saying wont be available until June. There must some supplies in storage but they must be getting very low now.
Good luck Kerry
I was thinking about the T3 shortages at work today and came to a conclusion that the situation is probably not too different from having your life support machine switched off when you are depending on it. Perhaps that is how doctors should see it before they decide switching our treatment back to T4 only.

Yes sisa975 you are so right. I for one will never go back on T4 poison that was killing me. Unfortunately the NHS is over we are going to have buy our own treatment for sure. I believe that shortage will be their way of putting the price up then next step saying it is too expensive for us sufferers. I'm sure if you can afford it or not but you can purchase cytomel online.
Take care Kerry
