over the range calcium blood test

Can this inhibit my T3 absorbtion?

serum calcium level 2.54mmol/L(2.03-2.45) above high reference range.

I always thought having good amounts of calcium helped with fat burning?

But I do suppliment it- do I or dont I continue?

Thanks Caroline

I don't know the answer to your question, but by co-incidence I had call from Gp to day to get an appt to see her as I too had high calcium.

I googled high calcium blood test and it appears high calcium can be related to parathyroids control of calcium levels.

Hyperparathyroidism is what you need to search, symptoms of tiredness lethargy etc. all the same as hypoT and fibro. I found it very interesting.

I was advised by my private doctor 'not' to supplement as there is 'plenty' of calcium in the diet she advises (and she advises a paleo diet with NO dairy products).

I am no special person, if anything I have malabsorption as I had a gastric bypass so if she tells me NOT to take calcium supps I really doubt any 'normal' person needs them.

Hi I have high calcium, it is dangerous ( lots of things ,stones etc but especially heart and kidney) but does not effect the thyroid treatment. However, essential to reduce vit D, if on it, if still over range, to then stop vit D Lots of re tests needed for corrected calcium. the only one that matters. Low D is horrible, I have Osteomalacia but fortunately good endo , Nephrologist and cardio, who look after my calcium ,along with ever thing else.

Best wishes,

Jackie

I agree with Jackie. If you supplement with D be careful if you supplement with calcium as well

Hi Have a retest of calcium in 3 months, corrected calcium is what matters., If still high, do not take D, even on it`s own it does put the calcium up.If stays above range, you need a very specific test, it must be AM, and must have PTH ( parathyroid) vit D and calcium tested. If all over range or 2 and D gone up for you. Then a nuclear scan and CT ( large teaching hospital) of PTH and also an ultra sound of the thyroid. This is extremely important. There are some nasty symptoms and may be causes of high calcium (corrected ) above range.

Best wishes,

Jackie
