Have just received my Vitamin D result from City Assays. The result is 98 nmol/L. Us this adequate? It's up from 48 8 months ago by taking 5000iu sublingual every day. To be fair I think I forgot to take it for a few days before so it's possibly normally slightly higher than this?

don't know princess, I had mine back today it was 26, the dr put me on 800iu/day. I am going to put myself on 5000iu a day.
can I ask the name of the medication you are on please, is it a tablet? Many thanks. It seems the vit d takes ages to come up, are you feeling any better?
Apparently adequate is over 50, my result was 40 a year ago, and I had so much joint (& ribcage) pain and muscle aches - It's now 103, I've stopped my 3-4000iu drops for a few days & my fingers are getting crunchy again (usually it's my elbow first!). I've read that 125 is optimal (Dr M I think?). Are you feeling better? J
Thank you, I just wondered if the 'over 50' was the NHS norm and actually it is better to be higher, so thank you for saying 125, I take it if I just keep taking the sublingual 5000 it should gradually up to the 125?
I cant honestly say if I feel better or not, I do feel a bit better over the last 8 months but I started vit d, b12 and levo at the same time so Im not sure whats making me feel better now. This is me just testing my levels now so should have a bigger picture in a couple of weeks. x
Here's what the Vitamin D council say (btw I see the have the city assays test on their site now)
The Vitamin D Council suggests that a level of 50 ng/ml is the ideal level to aim for. This is why the Council recommends that adults take 5,000 IU/day of vitamin D supplement in order to reach and stay at this level.
50 ng/ml equates to (about) 125 nmol/L - which is where the confusion sneaks in. (USA measures/UK measures).
If it's of any consequence I'm not on Thyroid meds (despite 5 x high normal TSH results, 2 over 5, range to 5.5) since supplementing (properly) TSH is now 1.69 - a co-incidence? still one low result got me dismissed from monitoring after my PT, fine - he took no notice anyway! J
I can honestly say that's all I've taken, so I don't know what else it could be?
I do feel better painwise but I am still cold, not quite as tired & brighter (happier?) not brighter clever-wise as still foggy brained! so lowering TSH still means my half a Thyroid is struggling, and Thyroid treatment is further off!
If it's any help I take 500iu per day of D3 -have done for about 3years now -I followed the vitamin D Council guidelines. I also cannot tolerate any sunshine direct on my skin so take it all year round. I buy it privately as I couldn't face another battle with my GP -even though i was diagnosed formerly with the need by a NHS specialist....some battle are just not worth fighting...it costs me only about £8 per year to supplement!
I just started taking Vit D yesterday. My Vit D test results came back today - 42 and the range is 50 - 250, so my Doctor has put out a prescription for me!
I have just bought some soldar 2200IU D3 supplements to try. A private Dr in the UK looked at my results and told me that a VitD level of 26 was 'very low' and that she would recommend levels to be at 120-150. She recommened 5000IU D3 a day and re check in 3 months.
My symptoms have been general tiredness, weakness and some joint pain that I put down to getting old. It was the private Dr who enchoraged me to go to my GP and ask for further blood tests.
I also have a DHEA of 2.8 which the GP said was normal but the private Dr recommended supplementation so I am trying that
The symptoms you described are typical of vit D deficiency -I had the same ones. Also you may find that you experience non-restorative sleep -that is you wake up in the morning feeling tired. The vit D Council also recommend 5000 iu per day as a very safe level to take. Hope you feel better soon -but it is likely to take a few months before you feel an improvement.
