I have been on the diet for 4 days so far. I noticed an immediate improvement in the first 2 days but went back to normal since. I had soya on day 3. It seems to be a maybe food to avoid.

hi rowantree - soya is ok for me - it might be one of those foods specific to you that you have to avoid. it can be trial and error ....

Hi,

Despite the fact that soya is seen as 'safe' by some FODMAP dietitians, I have real problems with it and avoid anything containing it. There are a couple of other products which, although low FODMAP, don't suit me at all (rice and oats).

As Rosiec55 says, one size doesn't fit all, and you have to work through adding one product at a time until you identify your personal triggers. Also bear in mind that it can take anything up to 48 hours for a bad food/drink reaction to occur.

On the whole though the low FODMAP diet gives me 95% control over my IBS-D - highly recommended!

Kerrym212. I found your post on soya very interesting. I started using soya milk and soya butter 3 years ago, my ibs c started to get much worse about a year ago and since trying the fodmap over the last few weeks, I noticed that soya was'nt well recommended, I done some research and decided to try lactose free milk instead and changed to olive oil type butter, what an improvement!! It has'nt cured my ibs but it sure has helped a lot. I found that I had already eliminated a lot that the fodmap suggested, simply by trial and error over the years, so I was ahead on that score. They said bananas were ok, I had taken them out of my diet but re-introduced them again but I still can't tolerate them and I loved my banana's. IBS is definately an individual thing, the symptoms are the same but food tolerances vary so greatly from one person to the next.

do you have ibs-c or ibs-d? the best milk substitute I found was hemp bliss from canada. no additives whatever so short shelf life so 'health food store' stopped carrying it. I find lactose-free milk binding, but does not cause PAIN!! like soy additives.

I have IBS-C. Very painful when it attacks. I can eat miso and tofu (fermented soy) but any type of processed soy flour, in baked goods, beverages, FUGETTABOUTIT! Debilitating pain for days. One size does not fit all.

I have a problem with soya and even soya lecithin which is in a lot of chocolate makes my tongue feel like I've had a hot drink and burned it.
