Only register hungry or stuffed

My stomach only seems to have 2 feelings. Hungry or completely stuffed and uncomfortable. Is this part of IBS or could it be something else?

I too feel the same but also get stomach cramps sometimes severe. Have cut down on wheat products and made a little difference. Also found I can't each much spicy food. Gp said to keep food diary.

Hi Kimbob, Yes I have heard a lot of people with IBS who keep a food diary. I think that's a good idea. I will start doing that. Thanks.

Stomach problems are separate to IBS considering the B in IBS stands for bowel but you can have stomach issues in conjunction. I have two separate stomach issues one of which is similar to this; I have gastropareisis aka delayed stomach emptying which means food could be in there not digested for much longer than it should. It sometimes leaves me feeling very sick and even 5 hours later I could bring up undigested food. This is what causes me to still feel stuffed and uncomfortable. If any of your symptoms sound similar to mine, it could be this! As an addition, do you drink water/juice etc. while eating? You could be swallowing a lot of air while eating which is what I used to do when I was first diagnosed and I was always in pain up in my stomach, under my lower left ribs.

Hi Kiwimiwi I don't think it stays in my stomach really. I'm never sick and very rarely feel sick. My stomach seems to take up to 3 hours to register that I'ts full if that makes sense. I ate quite a lot the other day just to see what would happen and it was only 3 hours later that it finally registered as being stuffed. (that's a Scots expression I think). Thanks for your reply though.

Hi Lindenp, I don't suffer with the same problems as you but agree with Kimbob in that a food diary would be a good idea. I have stopped eating broccoli, cauliflower and red grapes and my IBS is certainly better than it was. I'm under a dietician and she will be putting me on the FODMAP Diet (type that into the internet and you will come up with quite alot).

Best of luck
