Buscopan ibs relief

Has anyone tried this for their ibs. I don't usually take medication but as an ibs-d sufferer normally, suddenly I have started with ibs-c and ibs-d alternately. Sometimes my gut feels as if it's rushing everything through, and other times it seems to come to a full stop. In addition, I have started to have cramps. The cramps and constipation are new.

I am reluctant to go to the gp just now, we are due to go on holiday and I don't want to have to change the details on my travel insurance. I thought that I might give these a try and wanted to know what anyone else on here thinks about their effectiveness.

Hello iloveglee. This is very likely to be trial and error I think. That said, if I do get cramps, which luckily is not often, a Buscopan tablet can often ease it. Bear in mind that it can slow down peristalsis, although I have not found this.

I find it can help with the bloating and wind.

My advice is to take it for a bit and see how it goes and see if your condition improves. There is also a tablet called Mebervine that does the same thing. There's also peppermint oil capsules that can help with the both of the medications. There's a company i use online where I buy 365 days worth for a decent price which I take as and when required depending on my ibs. Buscapan is dear to purchase but you can ask your GP for the Mebervine and see what happens. Just some friendly advice.

I have tried it. Its usually to stop spasms so maybe would help with your D? I dont think it helped my particular issues.

I take it sometimes...but do not take it if you have had milk products. It doesnt work as well.

It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

thanks for all the comments. I have given this a go for a couple of days. I am taking the minimum dose of 3 a day along with half a fybogel sachet. I don't drink milk, only lactose free, as milk upsets me.

So far, although it hasn't reduced the amount of gas I get it is passing through, rather than getting trapped, which all adds to the cramping and bloating I think. I haven't had either constipation, or loose stools which is good.

Obviously I need to take it longer to see if this is just a coincidence. The instructions say not to take for more than 2 weeks without medical advice. Not sure why. At this minute, I don't want to add anything to my travel insurance disclosure of IBS, which I would have to do if I visited the GP.

Anyone who is taking it, are you getting it prescribed via your GP, or just buying it and treating yourself.

For diarrhoea I have found taking the probiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii is really helpful - I get it from iHerb.com as it’s reasonably priced.

Hiya, I have the same, sometimes IBS d and then ibs c - I’ve had a bad time last few days, stomach cramps, going to loo but also feeling constipated… Buscopan helps with pain a bit but then next day back to stomach pain, sometimes I don’t know..

The buscopan could be causing the C, it slows down the transit in the colon. What's your diet like?

Thank you, I think Buscopan does that, I’m confused atm as I have pain and discomfort then bad guts like going to the loo several times so I take loperamide for the pain and stops the loose bowel..

My diet restricted as lot of foods I can’t eat like meat, salad, vegetables, partly I have bad teeth, I kinda feel I need a liquid diet tho sometimes I eat more normally..

It certainly seems that reactions to this medication vary. But we're all different obviously. For me, currently, I am having what I deem to be normal bowel movements, how I remember them from the time before I developed this pesky disease.

My diet also is quite restricted. I can't eat much bread apart from sourdough, can eat some, but not all veggies, lettuce forget it, but ok with cucumber, peppers and tomatoes. I know, weird isn't it. I have lactose free milk which helps, and i can eat cheese and yoghurt.

And again, weirdly, I also feel constipated with loose stools that are hard to get rid of. Grrrr
