My situation

Hello, I'm a 56 yr old male living in the UK. I'm overweight but I'm a vegetarian, don't smoke and hardly drink alcohol.

Last year after going to the doctors with stomach and bowel issues, I had a colonoscopy which was clear. I also had blood tests, and early this year a poo test, which were so OK. I was then told I have IBS

I have bouts of constipation and stomach ache and bloating. I've cut back on all manner of foods. I only eat sourdough bread as it doesn't cause me issues.

For the last month I have had a dull stomach ache, and constipation. This has only eased up a few times. I went to the doctors 10 days ago and he said IBS was to blame.

I'm taking fibre gel (as the doctor prescribed) once a day to help with my constipation which seems to help. I still have the stomach ache, which seems to be worsen at certain times. Sitting back whilst working helps.

I just wanted to see if others had the same issues as me, and if they did anything to help?

Thank you

Hello

The constipation can cause the stomach ache, it does for me anyway..

It's hard to say what helps, I know not sitting about to much helps and doing some exercise. It's different for us all though.

I hope you work it out, good luck..

Thank YOU 🙂

I've sent a message to my doctor surgery this morning.

Seem to be going to the loo to pass urine often. I suppose he'll tell me it's connected to the IBS

Stomach ache persists and I have discomfort in my groin area

Always best to see your GP if there is anything you are concerned about. Good luck.

Hi Ricky. I have had ibs for at least 40 years and I have learnt a few things along the way. I used to be a vegetarian but found it makes ibs worse. Have you tried the low fodmap diet? It can help. Overactive bladder is linked to ibs. Everyone is different and what works for me may not work for you. What we have with ibs is visceral hypersensitivity which means we feel pain in our guts for no apparent reason. Ask your doctor for anti spasmodics and if they don't work then amitriptyline or nortriptyline. Keep on searching for a remedy that works for you then stick to it.

Thank you 🙂

The help from my doctors during my last visit was a link to an online leaflet.

Of course you can search the Internet but that's frought with bizarre results and raises concern

May I suggest you drink up to 2 litres of liquid a day. It definitely helps to stimulate voiding. Don't drink loads at bed time if you find you have to go to the toilet too many times during the night. I have a water container that marks every 2 hours, and it is easier to suck from this rather than drink a glass full. Don't forget to have a good walk/stroll every day, which stimulates the body

I have a doctors appointment next week. An appointment came through to see a dietician. Unfortunately, that's over 2 months away

Thank you to those who have posted so far 🙂

I found probiotics helped when I went through a constipation period. Oh and Holland and Barrett chocolate covered dates. 😍
