Hot drinks

Does anyone have IBSD bought on by hot or warm drinks? I am just wondering as a lover of decaf coffee or a warm drink whether just the act of drinking a warm liquid affects other people, and if so what do you replace hot drinks with (obviously cold but water and milk gets a bit boring)

It’s strange isn’t it. I have used hot drinks for years to substitute for food when dieting which to be honest has been most of my life! I am just having milk and water now to see if it makes a difference, so far o Imodium since Monday 😀

It is definitely strange how our body's change as we get older there is loads of things I cannot eat and drink now days. I have cut out fizzy drinks and only have the odd hot chocolate when I am at home. I am drinking dilute drinks now more water. I am eating fodmap diet foods so it's easier on my stomach. Hope yours is helping you I've had 0 Imodium for a week now just hoping it last 😃

I have given up hot drinks during the day, unless I am going to the loo. As the day goes along and if I start to feel a bit better I can sometimes get away with a cold coffee.

That’s interesting I am finding it helps a lot not having hot drinks, I used to think it was what the hot drink was. Now I’m thinking it was just because it was a hot liquid.

Yes, I think that is right. Also I don't eat hot food till evening. I do nothing hot now until evening!

and that has helped you has it? I am on day two, and had some danger foods yesterday with no repercussions without the hot drinks, but I think hot porridge would be the same in the morning.

I used to have porridge years ago, when I hoped I had finished in the toilet for the day. But that wouldn't work for me now. Things have changed so much over the last few years. I 'm just clutching at straws now!

same here! Clutching at straws is what I have done for years. I had an episode when having a hot drink on Sunday and some lunch, so I decided to ditch the hot drinks, I hope it works! Thank you for your insight its so helpful and gives me hope

Yup! 100% I had 2 very ‘close calls’ last year where I nearly didn’t make it to the toilet in time 🙈 and looking back I realised they were both brought on by hot drinks…. Cappuccino and a hot chocolate. So I only drinks these when near a loo and/or not feeling anxious. Nightmare right? Haha hope that helps x

My dear old mum used to have 2 hot cups of tea if she was constipated it used to do the trick. For me I do think there is a link between lunch time hot cuppa and a D attack later but not everytime

I think back and feel like caffeine and the fact that it is a hot drink really has an affect on me! I remember a dietician telling me to just eat rice and salt for 2 days and have as much tea and coffee without milk as you like! I still had stomach cramps and d and she could not work it out. But maybe it was the hot drinks !

Hi I avoid all caffeine and drink Tea Pigs Peppermint tea. I have a cup of decaf tea with lactose free milk when I wake up. Coffee and caffeine are not good for me. Peppermint tea is my go to hot drink now. Xx

Sorry I forget to add, my Gastro told me to avoid drinking with a meal and wait at least an hour before having a drink. I find it does help xx

This is a hard habit to break, every time you go out for a meal they want a drinks order! I automatically pour a drink with each meal, but worth it if it works

I have C and find that when constipated a hot drink and a walk will assist in relief and cold drinks will impact the following days. I often drink just hot water as I can be a caffeine fiend!

Also all my plain water is lukewarm (even in a warm weather spell, you can imagine how awkward it can get when I need to request lukewarm water at restaurants and pubs!)
