IBS C - hard dry stools

Hi everyone! Looking to share my story and get tips or advice. So I believe I have IBS C. GP diagnosed this from my symptoms. It’s very annoying for me I tend to go everyday, but my stools are uncomfortable, they can range from little balls, lumpy ones, larger ones or just dry ones. Then there’s the issue of piles or fissures that cause a lot of pain. I eat healthy (lockdown has made me reach for bad foods, coffee and wine) and drink lots of water. Over the last couple of weeks I have changed my diet to a healthier diet, so maybe it’s that? I exercise, mix of running and HIIT. I am a coffee and wine drinker, but have limited these over the last week. I dunno. I feel this has been on going for years. I do suffer with excessive flatulence as well, but that’s died down a bit after cutting out dairy for the last week. I dunno, it’s so hard isn’t it? It really depresses me and affects my life. Starting taken magnesium citrate for the last few days, but that’s not done anything. I also did that York test couple of years ago, came back with so many reactions, but I read mixed things about that test.

Oxypowder sorted my C - follow the instructions, up the dose til it has an effect, then lower it again until you find the right continuity dose. IBS is a harder nut to crack, but this helped the C at least. Good luck.

I'll pm you with the some tips. By the way, don't bother with the York test - these tests aren't proven.

Good probiotics sorted me out recently. I’m back to normal now.

Hi Ellie! Can I ask what probiotics you use? Thank you

Hi Dan, these are what I’m using at the moment but I am nearly at the end of them and need to replace soon.I like to try different products particularly moisturiser for eg. but don’t go on to re-order many items. However, I do like these probiotics and have already orded 2 lots so my next order will be my 3rd. that shows how pleased I am with them.

I don’t like to tempt fate but my acid reflux seems to have gone too. Now I don’t have to take the wretched Omeprazole any more, it’s such a relief.

Hope you put your own insides back to normal soon. Best of luck. x

Couldn't open the link unfortunately. Please can you write what it's called? I too suffer from IBS and acid reflux so very interested in anything that helps both conditions. Thank you.

Thank you 🤗

Hi dan I’m the same have been for years even with high fibre diet , water , exercise . I’ve found that if you are constipated no amount of extra fibre is going to relieve it , you need to soften the stool . What I’ve used with success is eating low fibre but taking optifibre by nestle it speeds up transit and softens stool , I also take 1 sachet movicol/laxido at night they are also a stool softener , as I have piles and fissure keeping the stools soft are important to heal them , also drink lots warm wAter !! Xx

hi Pansy, where do you get your optifibre from. Areyou in UK?

in reply toedwangy

Hi there yes I’m in uk you can get it from amazon or everyhealth.uk where it’s cheaper I buy the tub it’s more economical lasts ages as I only use 1 scoop a day might take up to 2 weeks to work but I love it 😀x

Hello thank you for this. It’s a nightmare isn’t it? I might give the optifibre a go. What fibre do you eat in terms of foods? Thanks

in reply to

I stopped eating high fibre grains and cereals and fruits like pears and apples . I eat oranges , grapes ,berries . Beans are a no no lol , high fibre doesn’t equal regular pooping if you have slow transit it will swell up dry out and get stuck x😩

I feel your pain! I have found Movicol helps keep things moving more easily. You can take up to 6 sachets a day but I'd recommend starting with one or two and build up if you need to.Good luck!

Hi Dan, I have been through a great deal with chronic constipation. Although I technically do not have IBS as my bowel is tortuous (lots of kinks and turns), and I have diverticulosis, and several food sensitivities, and then on low FODMAP diet, but many of my symptoms are the same as those with true IBS. I have taken Miralax (USA) or polyethylene glycol and Linzess for years, but over the last 6 weeks I have added Psyllium (added very small amounts and progressed very slowly), Iberogast, and Atrantil, while still taking Linzess. I have improved so much, that I am going to start weaning off the Miralax and Linzess. I am now eating some high FODMAP’s again! I wish you well!

Could you have SIBO methane dominant. Is that what you're taking the Atrantil for?

Not what you're looking for?
