Afternoon everyone. Really need to just have a rant today. I've posted loads on here and always received great advice from everyone. Everyone on here really are amazing. Today, I think is just a really bad day, normally I cope ok but today I just feel like it's never going to end. So exhausted and sick of feeling so poorly all the time. Ive been prescribed Colestyramine to try and see what happens, they should be delivered on Monday. Today, i feel sicker then usual and struggling to eat. When people have bad days and feel quite sick, what are people's go to thing to try? Thank you so much everyone for being the great people you all are xxxxx

BAM, IBS-D. Need a Rant.
Hi Julie, sorry to hear you are having a bad time at the moment. Hopefully when you get your prescription for cholestyramine things will settle a bit. I take cholestyramine one sachet daily, when my tummy is not happy I tend to snack on Water biscuits, they are low fat. OK for me but some people may not be OK with the gluten, not sure if you can get gluten free.Hope you manage the weekend OK.
Take care Pollyboo
Swanson's Chicken broth with noodles or rice. Also, Swanson's Beef broth with egg noodles and butter or just drink the broth.
So sorry you had a horrible day Julie182.
Yes, IBS sucks. I know those days when you just feel awful and it feels like it will never end, It's so miserable.
The only thing I can do if and whenever I get a day like that is roll with it. I am an outdoor person, so will still go outside and get on with gentle jobs out there, but fortunately there is a little downstairs loo right next to my back door! So if I'm in the garden I don't have far to go.
It makes me feel like crying when that sort of flare up happens, so I cry. I rest more too, and come and lie down on the floor on blankets and pillows and listen to nice music.
I more or less fast all day except for gentle herbal teas like Meadowsweet, and Camomile, and peppermint. I have a spoonful of honey to just keep my energy up, and if I had bad diarrhoea, I will take a lick of salt too. Tormentil herbal tincture helps me.
Then by dinnertime I'm usually starving so will eat the plainest bland food, like white rice, hard boiled eggs or steamed/baked fish ...something like Cod or Haddock, cooked plain with just water and a bit of salt. And maybe a tiny portion of steamed spinach or green beans or Pak Choi. White ciabatta toast too, with a little butter.
I don't go NEAR any tastier foods, or experiment with anything at those times.
Those things help me, but we are all different, and different foods might suit you better. These things do pass, usually after a few days if you take it easy and eat plain foods. Whenever I get a flare up it doesn't last too long, a day or two usually.
I hope you will feel better soon.
I find a handful of fresh mint steeped in a cup of boiling water, maybe with a half tsp of honey, is quite soothing. My Mum used to love lemon balm, scalded and left to cool, chilled from the fridge. She found it both refreshing and soothing, especially in warm weather, when we IBS crew seem to feel worse.
My safe food is good old porridge - made with plant milk xxx
Hi, hope you’re feeling better today than yesterday. My go to food when I’m in awful pain and discomfort is porridge. For me it settles my gut and calms everything down . I do live on a very boring bland diet which my friends don’t seem to understand at times. I don’t go to fancy restaurants because they are usually spicy dishes or contain something I know won’t agree with me.x
Sending sympathy, it's so miserable I know. When I get an attack I don't want to eat, but I've been told you shouldn't miss a meal as your body needs the routine. I don't know what to think, or which is best. I used to just stop eating when I had an attack until it got better - great for weight loss because I genuinely didn't want to eat! Now I find porridge is acceptable, with a bit of honey if I feel up to it, or potatoes. They don't make it better, but they're comforting. I wonder if making sure you eat pushes everything through your gut, and helps push out whatever is upsetting it but, as you can tell, I have no idea what's going on in there, so that's probably complete rubbish Sometimes not eating anything makes it - not better - but not worse? IDK but I wish you the best.
