Hi I get all of those symptoms - I was diagnosed with IBS over 20 years ago. Sometimes the cramps are so bad I can't stand upright and the pain means I've had to miss work - you have my sympathy. Has your GP mentioned sending you to a nutritionist? They should be able to help you figure out if it's any food you've got an issue with? That's how I got a bit of a grip on managing my symptoms, although there's a lot more related to it, obviously. What sort of food are you eating at the moment, because bland is better at least until you feel a bit better. I'm sure you've researched, this is just sending sympathy as I'm sure the worry is increasing your symptoms which doesn't help, so I wish you all the best

Hi thanks for your reply and I’m waiting too see a gastroenterologist who will probabaly tell me that when Iv spoken to her,I’m exactly the same I find it difficult to stand up for more than a few minutes as the pressure on my stomach and organs is so painful,I havnt realy noticed a sign that any particular food causes flare ups as they just appear out of the blue which you obviously will know, have you been recommended to do anything by your gp when the stomach pressure is there I wil try anything ic it helps, thank you again for your reply and my name is Patrick Pat for short

Hi Pat, I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but GPs don't really have any suggestions for IBS that I've noticed other than 'get Buscopan or Immodium from the pharmacy' (which makes me worse). I find a hot water bottle on the lower stomach helps. Pain killers can help sometimes, except you can't take them all the time of course. A flare-up can happen a while after you've eaten something - I find it can be 48 hours later, depending how slowly my gut is working - which means I spend ages wracking my brain trying to remember what I've eaten in the last few days that might have set it off! Can you try eating plain porridge or rice or potatoes for a few days, see if that helps your gut to calm down? Good luck

Hi thanks again and that’s true gp can only prescribe Buscopan and medverine which work for a few days and it’s back to square one I am Scottish and funnily enough I don’t like porridge at least I can laugh but again thanks for your suggestions I appreciate them and good luck to you too
