After being on top of my IBS for a few months, I had go on a course of anti-biotics which was fairly ok to manage. As I write this article I am experiencing really bad health anxiety and it seems to have come out of nowhere!
Does anyone else experience this?

is it perhaps a subconscious waiting for some kickback of the antibiotics to happen or even just wondering about it can be enough to bring on those worries, i often get feelings of anxiety and unease just before a flareup so the ibs and anxiety have become interlinked for me and sometimes just thinking about it is enough to bring on anxiety although it's mostly the physical stimulus that triggers things for me, I am at times so primed to worry that it can seemingly come out of nowhere of course we are all different
I have experienced the exactly same symptoms as you. My IBS only flares up a couple of times per year! I had to have a tooth extracted and ended up being prescribed anti biotic for 6 weeks to clear up a gum infection. This seem to cause a severe flare up of IBS and dealing with it makes me very anxious about my health in general!
I have health anxiety because I am assailed by many ailments and conditions including severe IBS. There are also times when I feel really well and I draw strength from that.
Morning, at times I have to take naproxen and/or ibuprofen for ibs unrelated knee issues.
This normaly gives me an upset stomach and I have to reassure myself that it’s my system dealing with the meds, to help me, rather than ibs taking hold again.
When I’m in control of my mind, I’m in control of the ibs !
You aren't on your own. I also have the same problem. My mind seems to rule how I deal with things. I find distraction is really helpful for me.I often read this quote found in an Iris Murdoch novel.
Happiness, said Willy is a matter of one's most ordinary everyday mode of consciousness being busy and lively and unconcerned with self.
To be dammed is for one's ordinary everyday mode of consciousness to be an unremitting agonising preoccupation with self.
What do you mean by “health anxiety” . Or are you experiencing general anxiety issues? Anxiety and depression, in general, can be caused by antibiotics. When you take antibiotics they essentially wipe out your good gut bacteria and are a disaster for your neurotransmitters, especially your feel good neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and others, the chemicals that make you feel “human”. If you suffer from ANY gut and digestive issues I highly recommend going on the GAPS protocol. It will take care of a lot of not most of the issues you are having. Follow the recommended diet STRICTLY if you want to see the best results.
