I take Alflorex when I’m starting with a flare up and for a few days it helps. After that it bungs me up and I regret taking it. Anyone else find similar?

alflorex question
Maybe pose this question to the manufacturer, since they have a support team to help:
I found Alflorex really good when I first started taking it earlier this year. It calmed my insides down very quickly and stopped the diarrhoea. Unfortunately it didn't last very long. I've started taking it again after a gap of about 6 weeks. It hasn't been as good this time and this morning has been a bad one so I've taken Imodium just so I can function normally for the rest of the day. I only wish that it would make me 'bunged up'. I previously got in touch with Alflorex care team and all they could do was quote from the information on their website. When I pointed this out to them they said they cannot give out medical advice.
Yes, although it took several months before the IBS became more mixed. I decided that was better than IBS-D so I’ve stuck with it. On Februarygirl ’s point, the manufacturers advise that the Alflorex bacteria do not colonise the gut so, if you stop taking it, the effect wears off in about a fortnight (I found my IBS-D came back in 3 weeks), so you then have to start again and it can take months to get any benefit back. But if Alflorex causes you more problems than the original IBS (and, like everything else, these things don’t suit everyone), then you might like to try another option - xjrs has a wealth of knowledge on this subject.
