Journey to recovery

Hi everyone, I’m in my second month of recovery from IBS. Try Peppermint oil capsules (not the sweets) 30 minutes to 1 hour before your meal; 15 minutes it’s quite ok. The Holland & Barrets is highly recommended . I also take 2 glasses of water every morning before breakfast.

Your mental health also plays a part in recovery. I would suggest taking your mind from the “I’m different and a strange person because of my IBS or digestive problems “ to “I’m the same old me that used to have digestive issues once in a while but it doesn’t determine my day”.

The mental aspect might not work for everyone, but it should work for the majority and anyone who has made up their mind to try it. A case study is that is me. I once had IBS symptoms many years ago but didn’t know what it was, it later disappeared probably after changing my lifestyle, especially reducing stress and having more sleep. If I started investigating then it would have elevated my anxiety. My mental state is largely 60% of my recovery.

I hope each of you find this useful.

Other tips that can help.

1. Check whether you have egg 🥚 sensitivity, it could potentially make feel you need to use the toilet more.

2. Be careful of the way you store food in the fridge; bacteria from spoilt food could cause more harm than the ones on surfaces (just saying, no science behind it; but bacteria in spoilt food might not be easily destroyed by heat).

3. Be careful of microwaved fresh foods e.g egg and sardines, I think they are better cooked, fried or boiled.

4. Take garlic when you feel you are feeling sick or using the toilet more frequently. IBS is largely from bacteria I believe.

I think many on here take peppermint oil capsules and they certainly do help. It is our individual differences that play a very large role in how we present with IBS (and in my case IBD also) and how we are able to deal with the issues. I am glad you have found ways to reduce/eradicate your symptoms. Stress plays a large contributory role as well known by the brain-gut relation; again, some of us can deal with stress better than others.

Very true. I remember having anxiety over an old issue even before IBS symptoms started.
