Hi. I have to take Vit D as found I was deficient. I also have a very achy body all over & muscle weakness. I do take a cod liver oil too & also magnesium supplement. I also have diverticulosis, which is a pain literally, I’m never free from discomfort. Obviously check with doc or pharmacy just to make sure you’re ok to take the e xtra supplement.

Best wishes 🤗

Ask to speak to the duty pharmacist. If they don't know, they can look it up.

I suffer from IBS (although very much improved over the last few years) and also had diverticulitis last year. Throughout I have taken, and continue to take, Joint Synergex which is a Glucosamine and Chrontroitin table combination. I also take a probiotic, and an A-Z multivitamin which contains vitamin D & magnesium. I have been OK with these.

I saw a dietitian initially 6 years ago when I developed IBS and again last year after the diverticulitis incident. She was very helpful in ensuring that I was eating as well as possible at the time.

Thank you. I battled for ages to try and see a dietitian and gave up in the end.

how much vitamin d and magnesium. The dose in multivitamin are miniscal.

You need 4000IU of vitamin D and 450 bare minimum of magnesium.m with issues. Now with magnesium that’s elemental. Supplements list 400mg , depending on form the amount of elemental and how much body absorbs in one sitting is much less 4% in cases up 23.5% food is30-40%

The multivitamin table contains 10 μg of vitamin D which is the recommended amount for adults daily.

It contains 100 mg of magnesium. Recommended amounts are 300mg a day for men (19 to 64 years) 270mg a day for women (19 to 64 years). So perhaps I should take more magnesium, but then I wasn't taking any until the dietitian recommended that I should.

You can get 100ug (4000IU) from H&B.

As for magnesium 100mg in supplement isn’t elemental and only a percentage of that is absorbed depending on form.

The recommended are fairly conservative. 400mg of elements magnesium and 4000IU is much more substantial and safe

I worry a bit at the amount of extra vitamins etc. you may be taking. My nutritionist recommended various ones and when I checked online, I realised I was taking far too much. Also it is really important to ask someone such as a pharmacist to consider all the medicines and supplements you are taking, as they can conflict. I take atorvastatin and one side effect for some is aching limbs. Instead of codliver oil from unknown sources, I use ground flaxseed on my cereal which also helps with constipation. So do get someone qualified to do an overall assessment of what you are taking.

I agree about overdoing vitamins, minerals etc but a lot of the RDAs are to avoid deficiency not the levels needed to thrive. Also agree re potential of supplements to interfere with prescribed meds (some can interfere with blood clotting, liver function etc). I think that being gluten and dairy free will make it even harder to cover all nutrient requirements and needs careful thought.

Just a thought Jayjayvee, have you looked into CoQ10 as you are having muscle issues whilst taking a statin. Supplementing has mixed results but it may be worth a trial if your symptoms are troublesome. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl....

Agree with Starfush's comments re vitamin D and magnesium. Important to take magnesium when taking vitamin D to counterbalance the increased calcium that the vitamin D will 'cause'. It's also important to take vitamin K2 ensure that calcium goes into teeth and bones and not soft tissues such as kidneys and blood vessels! (MK7 lasts longer in the body).

Surly the dr would have said to take something else when prescribed ?
