Hi, all I know is that when I have bad diarrhea and I have to go out I take what I need to! Most often 2 and then another 1 after a loose motion and some times another. The problem is If you are not careful you go the other way which I generally find worse and can be more if an issue for me. I am happy to control my IBS with loperamide as it generally is fairly instant. I also take a probiotic which I think really helps and having followed the fodmap diet now know to be careful about eating certain goods, particularly white fresh bread. Thankfully it is mainly under control but has taken about 35 years to sort it out! Good luck
Loperamide: Hi, all I know is that when I have... - IBS Network
Loperamide
I also use Loperamide when necessary. I used to get them on prescription, but buy them from that well known "amazing" online website now. I get 30 at a time ( 5 boxes) delivered and saves having to drive miles to my chemist. They're currently £4.55 for 30. I sometimes find that after taking 3 in a day, I don't go to the loo for 2 or 3 days. This can be a problem as I'm then playing catch-up and can get a normal loo trip followed by diahorrea. But Loperamide is my only option and rarely need to take 3 in any one day. Can I ask which probiotic you take please? My IBS is anxiety related, I can be ok for a week or so then something triggers me off, usually a doctor's appointment or knowing I have to drive somewhere and be away from home. Good luck!
I am the same with anxiety especially when I have appointments or invitations I take Loperamide and I take a probiotic Alflorex chewable tablets at bedtime it does help but it's not a cure. Hope this helps you.x
