I am normally a constipated individual, but over the last week I have suffered twice with severe diarrhoea with extremely painful spasms. Following the first bout I didn’t go to the toilet for a week, even after taking two separate doses of Laxido.
Well last night it all kicked off again - pain & diarrhoea. Managed to speak to GP this morning & I am having blood tests tomorrow.
My question is has anyone experienced yellowy /orange poo, which is what I am really concerned about now? Also I am nervous about taking immodium in case it blocks me up?
Any thoughts would be greatly received.

Could it be something you ate? I had severe diarrhea half an hour after eating a very mild vegetable curry. I then remembered the same thing had happened the last time I ate the same curry from the same restaurant. So it must have been an ingredient although what, I don't know! I spoke to a nutritionist in our health food shop and she suggested it might be an intolerance to fat or cream and I do always feel sick after eating batter. I think when you have such a violent reaction the food hasn't digested properly so it is always lighter in colour. She gave me some probiotics and suggested having a teaspoon of lemon juice before eating as thought I may have low stomach acid. It is worth a try maybe?
Thanks for your reply. It’s certainly a minefield when it comes to our guts/digestive system. It seems it’s all trial & error & hope you find the cause.
I have been feeling particularly unwell the last two weeks. Diarrhoea on and off for the last two weeks with terrible stomach cramps. Usually the opposite for me 😫. No appetite. Anyway after another particularly bad night last night & following my blood tests on Tuesday I have seen GP this morning & she has said bloods are showing raised infection. so feels there is an infection in the bowel. I do have diverticulosis so could have flared up. So antibiotics I’m now on.
Sorry to hear your experiences & thanks for the tips.
I don't know the answer, but I'm glad you asked the question! I have been worried about the ginger-coloured diarrhoea for some time but nobody seems to take any notice of the colour issue. The doctor prescribed loperamide (Immodeum) and this seems to make the colour more normal as well as controlling the frequency and consistency. But you're quite right to be worried about what effect that would have. I started taking it as the doctor prescribed (2 tablets twice a day) and suffered the most awful painful constipation. Now I'm beginning to know when to take it and it's one tablet about every three days. It all seems to be trial and error for each individual but with loperamide I would err on the side of too little rather than too much!
Hi again, just to let you know that I am going to have a test for Bile Acid Malabsorption, so I looked it up on the internet to see what that was; gutscharity.org.uk/advice-a...
One of the things it says is this: "Diarrhoea is usually frequent during the day and sometimes at night. It may be pale, greasy and hard to flush away or may be unusually coloured (green, yellow or orange)."
I don't know if this is what I've got yet, but this is the first time I've seen anything about the colour - so maybe it might help you?
