Laxido - diarrhoea

hi there,

I was suffering with constipation so my doctor prescribed Laxido. The label from the pharmacy said take one twice a day generally but if constipated you can take 6 in 1 hour. I took 5 in 1 hour last Saturday. Since then, I have loose stools/diarrhoea. I have bloating and cramps also. I thought I was fine today but after eating my lunch I got extremely sore cramps and then had loose stools again. I’m taking Imodium which isn’t stopping it. I’ve had 2 loose movements today. I didn’t go to the toilet at all yesterday. The day before I had multiple loose movements.

my question is has anyone experienced this and how long can I expect the cramps / loose stools to last? Sick of it at this stage!

I think you need to re-check the label on the Laxido. I have some which were prescribed to overcome constipation due to surgery. The label on my box says "faecal impaction - 8 sachets daily (within 6 hours)". I think you may have overdosed by taking 5 sachets in 1 hour. I was only on 3 per day for a few weeks.

Perhaps you should just rest your system for a few days. No Laxido and no immodium (if you can). Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Thanks for your reply. I think the pharmacy made a mistake on the guidance label they printed for me as it says ‘if constipated, six can be taken in less than one hour’…

I didn’t realise the Imodium could be impacting my system returning to normal. I’ll stop taking it now! Hoping this will pass soon. It’s almost a week since I took the Laxido!

Oh my goodness you need an explanation from the pharmacy as to whether it was their fault or GP? Nowadays the GP writes the dose on an electronic prescription which automatically labels the medication . In the olden days the Pharmacist could easily correct errors and often protected the patient several times a day. Please contact the Pharmacy to ask who’s mistake then the medical professional concerned can learn from the error. You have been subjected to the wrong dose and wonder you are suffering. No long term effects except your quality of life and agony of the error. It will also have upset your natural rhythm for a while. Lots of sodium in Laxido so it wasn’t good for you at all if you didn’t drink plenty it could have been dangerous.

Yeah I’m quite annoyed that this has happened because it’s a whole week later now and my system still isn’t right! Hoping it won’t last too much longer.

I think you probably had a build up and then the laxido did its job getting rid the imodum really only prolong the time between bowel movements, but if you had a build up it has to empty and the imodum won't work against that, you really need to check your diet wright a journal of what you eat and see what constipates you, make sure you get plenty of water
