Post Colonoscopy Bowel Movement

Hi All Just had a colonoscopy as part of long ongoing investigations into my IBS-C and recent ongoing difficult bowel movements. I'm 74 yrs old with digestive problems since 22 yrs old. Lots of scans do not show any problems and the colonoscopy only revealed 2 polyps 6mm in size , removed for the normal checks otherwise a clear bowel.

I am concerned about post colonoscopy bowel movements and would be interested in the experience of fellow community members . Thank you

I had extreme abdominal pain with the first food after colonoscopy. Lasted 8 hours keeping me doubled up unable to do anything. The pain came from the area where samples were taken from. Identified as I had the colonoscopy without sedation and watched everything on the monitor. I suspect digested food got into the wound. Bit like with a mouth ulcer.

Nothing changed after the procedure, same old same old. Nothing found either.

Hi

Thank you for your reply. Had the sedation which seemed to work very well , just a little pain at the bends. Still managed to watch the monitor , very interesting. After 3 days my bowels are back to some normality this morning so I hope it's the same tomorrow.

Sorry you had a bad experience and the pain post procedure at least nothing sinister !

I wish you well. Take care.

Hello,

I've been told to have a couple of polyps removed via colonoscopy following a CT scan. Also wondering about recovery from this.

Perhaps there's certain foods we can eat to help ease the pain post treatment. I imagine drinking enough water might be a good idea.

Anyone else experienced this?

Hello Mgt8

Apart from the 'when can I expect a bowel movement' post colonoscopy , all went well , very little pain (had the sedation) except the bends. During recovery windy crampy pains lasted for 24 hrs.

For both pre (starting 3 days before) and post colonoscopy I found a low fiber diet worked well with lots of water and clear fluids.

Hope all goes well. Take care

Our systems all work at different rates to get back to a normal for you. I still had the affects of Moviprep after my colonoscopy so after a light snack had a watery BM, after that 3 days to get back to normal for me.

Hi Linley I guess also it's our expectation verses reality. Thankfully seems I'm almost back to my normal this morning (3 days) although still crampy. Hope all is well with your colonoscopy.

Take care

Thanks for taking the time to respond. That helps. It's always good to have an idea of what, could, be expected and know what might be outside of expected outcomes...😊Hope you're feeling back to normal soon...

Sorry I have only just read this post I had my 1st colonoscopy early after having blood in my poop had 6/7 polyps removed then the Consultant saw some more up there had 2 go back 10/12 days later to have 3/4 more removed ( No Cancer ) so I didn't have chance 2 recover told that I'd got IBS/Diverticular Disease thought OK tablets and it would all just go away that was early 2021 still having tummy problems all of 2022 so back up the Doctors on and off with it ( when I could get them on the phone after being in a cue 4 almost an hour ) given this mebervine stuff and more or less get on with it not a very good Xmas 2022 so January saw Doctor again sent 4 colon scan not as bad as colonoscopy scan ( not as bad as colonoscopies but still had 2 take that prep stuff ETC awful ) this one was OK but bad enough 2/3 months later still in chronic bouts of pain sent 4 another scan like they have 4 babies all OK again it's now October still having IBS/Divert problems will try Doc's again next week but again not holding any hope of anything from them Oh I wish there was something that could be done 4 people like us instead of giving us LOW FODMAP diet sheets and told 2 more or less get on with it well that's my experience anyway so take care and look after yourself OK

Hi No need to apologise you have a lot of issues to deal with.

Take your time to trial possible solutions and establish any benifits . We are all different.

After a few years decided to go privately , Gastroenterologist and a Dietician . It was worth the money. I still have ongoing problems with no chance of a cure .Pain levels are much improved. Thankfully colonoscopy was totally clear having had 2 polyps removed and no need for followup. I convinced myself I had a tumor (blockage). Now I know the answer.

I wish you good look and you find some resolution to your IBS issues.

Thank you for your reply only in my last post I was told that it was a mess but to be honest I re-read it and was in full agreement it was but I just needed to get it of my chest once and for all well the next post may make some sense but the way I am all jumbled up in my head at the moment and I am just totally ( As we all are) FED UP with these IBS/Divert Disease and the pain and forever in fear as I am each day I wake up and scared of what will come out of me for the last 2/3 years as I don't know what is a normal bowel movement for me anymore!!!
