I'd advise to get a stool sample to check for inflammation. If positive then further tests maybe required

sorry you are going through this.

I always have pain after bowel movements. Bowel hypersensitivity is one of the problems with IBS.

I have that but I think it's down to an inguinal hernia. That is being repaired on Friday so we'll soon know whether I'm right or not after that.

Hi, I had this symptom too following a b.m. which could last all day. I also had low abdominal trapped wind type pain and also a visceral squeezing in the gut, along with slow motility. After 4 years I am now on Duloxetine 60mgs and all of those symptoms are much alleviated. The slow motility is not a great problem, I take Symprove daily and all is greatly improved. I believe the pains were all hypersensitivity related. I hope this reply is relevant to your problem and hopefully helpful.

Thank you. This describes my situation perfectly. I also noticed that if I am ultra busy, I can go almost all day without noticing it until I start to slow down.

Hi, I initially started taking Duloxetine 20mgs and did have some unpleasant side effects for several days, until my body got used to them. However I realised I needed to increase the dosage after a fortnight and again after that . It is worth giving them sometime because they really can help, I have no pain at all now, and take 60 mags daily, they have been a game changer! However I realise they do have a lot of possible side effects, it’s up to you. Good luck!

Hi Mutleyforever, at what timeframe did you notice some pain relief? My son started 3 weeks ago at 30mg upped to 60mg a week ago. One afternoon this week he felt pain relief intermittently which was the first since starting however next day back to normal consistent pain. I noted in your update that after a fortnight you knew you needed to increase dose, was that because you did feel some relief at that stage so felt you needed stronger dose? Thanks.

Hi Rengal, yes at a lower dose one type of pain I had after a b.m. Was gone , but other types of pain persisted, so I knew it had made a difference but not enough. I’d say it takes about 2 weeks to feel the difference and for your body to adapt to it ( and get over the side effects). Has your son tried Amitryptiline or Imipramine as they are very effective but I found they slowed my already slow gut down too much and so had to stop them.

Thanks for the reply, yes he had been on amitriptyline for 8 months, felt slightly better week 7 or 8 but only those weeks - dosage was increased too but really was not helping re pain. He weaned off over a short period with no difference to pain.

We will wait the 6/7 week mark on Duloxetine and see if any improvement. It seems need to be very careful reducing this one. Thank you for your experience, and best of luck with your health.

Yes I often do have had this for years my gut goes into spasm and cramps and then settles again it is one of the common symptoms with a lot of us and any amount of tests will often show nothing I am learning not too worry to much and just go with it IBS and it's many accompanying symptoms (including worry and anxiety) can be extremely trying and difficult to live with but discussing how we feel like this can help a lot
