Probiotics and prebiotics

I have ibsd and have started taking alflorex capsules which a dietician suggested. Alflorex is a probiotic containing lots of bacteria. Do I need to take a prebiotic (to feed the bacteria) and if so, which one is to be recommended?

Initially I wouldn't specifically take a prebiotic until your symptoms are more under control from the Alflorex. Prebiotics feed gut bacteria. Until the Alflorex has had a chance to do its job, you may end up feeding any bad bugs that are still dominating. Once you are feeling better from the Alflorex, you could consider prebiotics then. However, there are many prebiotic foods, so you don't necessarily need a supplement.

Thanks this is very helpful. I wouldn't have known this otherwise although I did some research into prebiotics on the internet.
