Hi

Can anyone recommend a good probiotic? I've heard they can help with digestive problems. There are so many out there I don't know where to start. Thanks!

Jo

Hi Alan if you mean activa yogurt then it's a no no for me. I have to have lactose free dairy. I wish I could have normal dairy as the lactose free stuff is so expensive!! x

Hi Thanks Alan. Yes, I can do a search but there is nothing like a personal recommendation. Many thanks - stay well! x

I have tried 5 I think - maybe more...:

VSL3 - Worked well only one strain

Florastor - works well only one strain but sometimes makes me feel a bit nauseous

JIGSAW PROBIOTICS - Seems to work well with no side effects...

Perfect Biotics - On order to try it

Prescript-Assist Probiotic - Going to try this soon - this one is interesting as it seems to use stuff others do not:

But with a description like this:

Prescript-Assist® (P-A) is a next-generation combination of 29 probiotic microflora "Soil-Based-Organisms (SBOs)" uniquely combined with a humic/fulvic acid prebiotic that enhances SBO proliferation.

I think I am going to be eating capsules full of garden dirt.

I'm waiting for the order of my Perfect Biotics also

I think I've tried just about every probiotic out there from the cheap to the very expensive and not one of them made any difference whatsoever to me.

in reply to

Hi Rosie thanks for that I thought it was just me. Tried two and no effect at all. Thought maybe I'd just not picked the right ones.

Hi Jo, recently read about Aflorex on the IBS network site so may give it a go it's quite expensive though but if it works then, hey! Like everything else, it may work for you and may not! A friend of mine takes Probiotic 20 from Healthspan (UK) and says that after 4 weeks she's pretty sure it makes a difference. Generally the jury still seems to be out on probiotics. Good Luck Jo, you're not alone..Anji

Thank you for that Anji - will try!!

I take the Healthspan Super20Pro ones, they are very good for me. I also take Optibac's saccharomyces boulardii. I haven't had to take antibiotics for flare-ups of diverticulitis for 14 months, which is a record for me!

I drink one small bottle of Actimel every morning with my breakfast. My dieticien recommended it for me because the medication that i take every day updets my stomach but drinking a bottle of Actimel has helped enormously.

in reply to 2Chrissie4

Hi I'd love to take Actimel as it's easy to pick up from the supermarket but I'm not good with dairy and I believe it contains milk...thank you for your reply!

I am taking Natures plus GI natural and they are great for me within 3 days I noticed a difference and now I am down to 1 a day instead of 3. They are magic for me and I hope they will be for you too.

in reply to Callybott

Thank you so much for the reply - will look into it.

I take Bowel Calm from Clever Cultures. New on market, made in UK, post worldwide. money back guarantee. need to take for at least 4 weeks to feel a difference. not a miracle cure but made life a lot easier for me.

in reply to spanishtigress

Thank you - I know these things take a while to work, but if in the end they do it's worth it!

How are you with chocolate? Holland & Barrett's sell Biotic Balance Chocballs. They seem expensive but as you only have one a day (or two if you need two) they last for a while.

in reply to WillowTheWhisp

Hmmm I love chocolate but, it doesn't love me. If they don't contain dairy I'll be fine. I'll certainly look into it as there is a big H & B in Stockport. Many thanks!!

Great - thank you!

At the moment, I'm taking Seven Seas multibionta , one per day. After reading that antibiotics sap all your good bacteria (I'd had 20 days of antibiotics for Diverticular) I decided to give these a go. Here's hoping

Great! I'm making a list of all these suggestions - thank you!

Jarrow formulas +MOS or + FOS. Get the one without any milk cultures. It works well.

You can order it on iherb.com and use the iherblink on my website to get yourself a discount.

You can take it on an empty stomach and it works well. I suffer from bad stomach issues too.

HI

Most probiotics get destroyed in the stomach so get to reach the colon. have tried activa yakult- no help. been trying culturelle probiotics which are supposed to survive the stomach and reach the colon. after 3 months no improvment.may help some people but IBS D like me.

Hi

I've tried many in the past but the one that has really worked is Alflorex precisionbiotics. They have changed my life for the better. It's a patented strain too for IBS and gut problems. I buy mine on eBay usually for cheaper and get them for about £30 for a 2 month supply xxx
