Anyone react to fish?

Just wondering if I'm alone on this - seems sometimes when I have fish I can have a bit of a flare up. My usual one to avoid is Salmon. But Tuna is fine, as is haddock. Last night I had Lemon Sole and that seems to have aggravated things, though I am suffering badly with anxiety so who knows.

I am intolerant to fish, so avoid it these days. Oddly I can eat prawns.

could it be how it’s packaged. Could you have a Mercury or aluminium sensitivity?

I wondered about that, with it being Sole. I suffer if I eat shellfish too.

Fish is one of my safe foods and I seem to be able to eat any kind. That's good because I can't eat meat, and if fish was off the menu my only protein choice would be eggs.

But a couple of years ago I had a flare up twice after eating cooked cod, just cooked plain with salt which is how I have to eat all my fish.

I became convinced fish caused the two flare ups which were bad. Yet later I ate exactly the same things and was fine and have been since.

It took me a while to understand that for me IBS just does its own thing regardless, and my flare ups are coincidental. I have happily been able to eat cod ever since that time in 2021.

But if you are histamine intolerant you could have a problem with fish and a few other foods. Check out Histamine intolerance and see if it could apply to you.

hi there,

I always use to eat salmon. Then beginning of last year (after having baby) things changed dramatically. I thought eating plain salmon and rice would be good idea for my tummy, but turned out the fat content is too much. I now have trouble breaking down fats. So no more salmon for me unfortunately. I’m not sure how my body changed that dramatically, but I use to be able to eat avocado too but that’s a big no go now. The only other fish I eat is tuna occasionally and then cod or haddock. They seem to be fine.

thats really interesting! I have terrible trouble, digesting good fats, I can’t take Olive Oil, can I take any other oils I cook with water, mostly , I seem to be able to cope with processed fats in i food, which are not supposed to be good for you, but any of the good oils i struggle . I manage salmon again now, if I drain all the fat off I can, the other fish you mention are not oily, so thats probably why you can tolerate them.

Similar - I can eat rubbish processed stuff, like frozen pizzas, absolutely fine. Though I'm ok with olive oil I think.

That’s really interesting. I’ve not been able to eat cod for years, my Grandad was the same, it makes us sick. I can eat haddock, tuna, mackerel and prawns in small amounts.
