Life is sooooo wonderful insn't it. So it seems that to go with my IBS diagnosis I have now had an Gastroscopy which diagnosed this Barrett's Oesophagus disease. Does anyone else have this? is there a diet to follow to reduce the discomfort? is this even the right place to ask a question about it?
Anyone heard of Barrett's Oesophagus disease - IBS Network
Anyone heard of Barrett's Oesophagus disease
Hi, I'm no expert but my understanding is it’s a complication of Gastro Reflux. I have reflux since starting with my bowel problems - suspected post infective IBS-D. Not Barrett's changes as yet but not had Gastroscopy so who knows! I have no idea if there is any specialist diet for your condition. I guess asking your GP or better still GI consultant would be a good idea.
I think you are right to ask the question but it is a rare complication of reflux so may not be too many people who have experienced what you are going through
I really hope you can find a way to reduce the discomfort - good luck.
Hi Boogie
Thanks for your reply. I found ferret29 s website quite useful. I hope you managing your IBS-D. My consultant just said I had IBS no mention of any letters after it? so what is the D for?
Thanks
Hello there,
I knew a little about the condition (my friends husband has it) that it was the result of long term acid reflux and changes to the cells lining the lower oesophagus but decided to get some better information for you, firstly as with looking up anything on the internet try not to get too unsettled, my GP in the past has scorned me for using google instead of talking to him, and he was right, a diagnosis means different things to different people, you may find this link may help you find out more, about Barret's oesophagus
digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddi...
the only thing I will say I know about it is insist that regular checks are made as in repeat gastroscopy's and know your own body, if somethings feels wrong talk to your GP, (my friends husband is an older gentleman and under private medical insurance and his gastrologist does a gastroscopy every 6 months or so and for the years that he has had it there has been no change)
I found reducing stress, not eating before bed and watching spicy fried food helped my stomach as did not drinking fluids while eating to stop it watering down your acid that in turn stopped me producing too much to counter the watering it down.
And I had to lay of alcohol for quite a while as this really used to bother me.
All the very best
Hi Ferret29
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I checked the website and found it very interesting.
I went on to find another website barrettscampaign.org.uk/ which I ended up joining (sorry don't know how to make it into a working link). again thank you.
