I have been diagnosed with diverticulitus. Had colonoscopy and abdominal CT Scan but nothing sinister other than the diverticulitus. I have bowels opened every morning and feel OK till about mid afternoon when I pass so much wind until I go to bed. I do also have a painful haemmoroid. Does anyone else suffer such acute flatulence. I have tried all the OTC remedies but nothing cures it. Amber 307.

severe flatulence
What, specifically, have you tried OTC? Was simethicone part of that mix?
Hi Amber307!
I’m right with you with the wind! Mine also seems to occur afternoons and evenings and in enormous quantities. I started having quite bad gut pains a couple of years back so had a colonoscopy which found diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon. I get varying levels of wind pains all the time but what seems to reduce them for me is a few spoonfuls of live natural yoghurt each morning and a Wind-Eze pill after each meal. Plenty of fruit seems to keep my natural fibre intake up which helps keep me regular. It seems everyone’s experiences are slightly different so it’s just an ongoing cycle of trial and error.
I wish you the best of luck with finding your happy balance!
Thank you for your advice. I will try the natural yoghurt and will up the fruit intake. I do have a fair amount. I have tried Windeze but not after each meal. Unfortunately there is a shortage at the pharmacies just now but I will try taking it three times a day. Amber 307
There seems to be a shortage of it everywhere. I live in Spain and can’t get it here either. I wonder why.
Any changes in diet? Onions and raw garlic are killers for me. Some people have trouble with beans or cabbage. And there's always dairy. Could it be something you're eating?
Hello
Same here, but not all the time, seem to get bouts of it that last a day or so and it's awful 😞 I take activated charcoal if it gets really bad, which eases it a bit. You have to try and pinpoint what's causing it, it's usually a certain food or drink. As winfong says, onions and garlic are a no no for me, also, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, all the brassicas really I can't touch and I love them too. I find fruit juice starts it too, so I don't have much. It's a case of elimination really. Take care 🙂
Take a look at what you usually eat for breakfast, because there might be something that doesn't agree with your gut? Even if it's "healthy"...doesn't mean your gut likes it.
We can change as time goes by. I used to eat two big pieces of chopped fruit, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and bran flakes, for umpteen years and it suited me (pre-IBS) Then suddenly, literally overnight, it didn't. I can only eat ciabatta toast with butter and honey now, and perhaps a teaspoonful of sunflower seeds for my gut to be happier,
Have you tried any probiotics to help ease the flatulence?
