Perhaps give the low FODMAP diet a try.

Hi I am 82 as well and can sympathise, it’s embarrassing for sure..last week I suddenly got a really sore and painful right side with pains when I move from under rib to groin. Right side only

Dr said diverticulitis, I wondered rumbling appendix and put me on the frightening antibiotics, with broth for two days and light meals, so I’ve had a few days to think about this problem while waiting for a repair to prolapsed bowel.

My thoughts at this minute are chocolates cream things spices and in my case seeds in tomatoes, fruit skins etc which love , so after this scare as I have not been able to eat fruit with skins etc cause my colon just cannot digest these and and get stuck

In the colon and ferment and cause the horrendous not stop gas .I have just printed Foodmap which is interesting for when I finish these horrible antibiotics..Also drink water through the day..I think we have to help ourselves..wish I had done that earlier..drs have not been help really on this kind of thing..I have come to the conclusion that medicine helps but we have to find out ourselves..I have only just started 😮😊

I am the same every time I eat I just can’t stop breaking wind afterwards and always had a problem with flatulence.

I would definitely look at your diet and as A_IBS has mentioned, try the low FODMAP diet. Also, wheat causes a lot of gas.

I have exactly the same problem, my only symptom was flatulence. I even went to see a specialist under Bupa, he sent me for a breath test to rule out sibo which thankfully I didn't have. All he could advise was peppermint capsules 20 minutes before food, which did not work. The only thing that has worked for me is optibac extra strength probiotics (one a day) they have helped me so very much ( touch wood) i had to give them about 8 weeks to work though. Good luck as i completely understand how you are feeling x

Probiotics are good, I agree. Yakult is good too I find for regularity,

Also to help with absorbing flatulence I have got some flatulence filtering underwear - this is serious underwear specially made with carbon filters in it that absorb gas. They are called Shreddies underwear. They are quite expensive but obviously are reusable - just have to always wash them in the machine with washing soda - not normal washing powder or it clogs the filter affect. Just look o the internet for this if interested it works very well sitting down at social functions.
