I have been given mebeverine by the doctor. He said to take it 3 times a day before meals ... but breakfast and lunch are small ( I tend to graze in between !) so I take it before my evening meal. I haven't had a flare up so far whilst taking it .. but that's just been a week .. I usually have flare ups every 2 weeks or so. Will be interested to see how this goes. Anyone have any particular thoughts? Not sure what side effects to look our for . (maybe i won't have any as only taking one a day).
Thanks.

Hi Hayhead. I have taken mebeverine (colofac) when my ibs was severe years ago and I have to say it was just amazing. No side effects and calmed everything down for me. I wish you well
I have been taking mebeverine before lunch and dinner for over a year and have only had one flare up in that time due to eating too many vegetables I think. No side effects that I have noticed. I drink lots of tap water.
Mebeverine is rather old as an IBS treatment. I was given these in the eighties, and we're very hit and miss. In the end gave them up as waste of time. Nowadays just use a few days of buscapam. A standard medacine now. In fact ct colonoscopy, they give you an injection of it through a cannula to relax colon for the procedure. In the UK there really is very little effective alternatives. In other countries there's a better range of antispasmodics available. II reality IBS treatments aren't on the high list for research by uk medical boards. Bit like cannabis, absolutely no research is allowed by the countries teaching hospitals. That's a political ploy, to stop cures by a natural herb, to protect pharmaceutical profits. He very same that Nixon did in 1973, which led to most of the bans across many countries, which is cause of concern when we know cannabis has so many benefits to thousands of people
