Hi all,I’m having symptoms of something and they are driving me crazy and starting to take over my life, looking for advice and support and to see if anyone else has similar.I haven’t had a diagnosis of IBS yet, but I have have symptoms on and off for the past 2 years. Symptoms ramped up in July 2022 and more recently I have had symptoms constantly for the last 8 weeks, these are:
Pooing several times a day, for the past 2 years this has mostly been unformed and like hummus. Recently I’ve been going between pooping 5-6 times a day which is soft, to the next day it is really hard and only going once, sometimes when it is harder it’s a little flatter in appearance.
I have lower right side abdo crampy pains. I often need to poop straight after eating, which is super annoying!I have lower back pain near coccyx that feels worse when sitting down and also if I clench my bum cheeks, I have pain which almost feels like a muscular pain in my bum.I have a burning, itching, raw, sore pain around my anus and into my rectum, that is there all the time, this feels really raw when I’m pooping, it feels really swollen and I always have the sensation of needing a poo. My anus almost feels wet at times too.Wind sometimes feels stuck in anus and this often is painful when it passes.my tummy always feels bloated.I have had a FiT test in November 2022 which was normal and a colonoscopy in 2021 that showed some diverticula disease.Any help and advice would be great as I’m really struggling and getting worried.

Southward82 do a search on "Hiding in plain sight - thiamine deficiency." Also search on "thiamine IBS" Thiamine (vitamin B1) needs adequate magnesium to become activated. If you use a B-Complex additional thiamine will probably be needed several times a day. They work better together. The brain and vagus nerve front and center require activated thiamine for their control of your gut. I hope you research other issues your having that may tie back to a deficiency. Also look up a list of anti-thiamine factors that diminish or destroy thiamine. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.
can you recommend any specific brands of the b complex with thiamine please? Just gets so confusing with all the supplements with varying amounts on the market. Many thanks
Hello, if you are in the UK then I strongly recommend the one from Holland and Barrett which has 9000 times the daily recommended amount. I think that this may be prescribed more in the case of those suffering from problems such as diabetes, as often for them their B1 is depleted. This can have consequences on mood. Also, the liverel supplement from vitabiotics contains a good amount of B1 and also selenium and other useful things too!
the only thing with such high amounts of b vitamins is that they are water soluble and too much can cause bowel upset usually diarrhoea so I would be careful recording this in general as it can and will upset a lot of people with ibs. Thanks but I wouldn’t touch one with such high quantities in it I would also advise a blood test first before supplementing because a lot of vitamins and supplements that are not necessary can cause more harm than good for some people. I know not everyone is as sensitive but it is worth checking with your doctor re blood tests as that’s an extremely high amount of b vitamins to consume and the body does not store it so your body has to get rid of what it doesn’t need and that’s where the issues come in. Like high levels of vitamin C are notoriously bad for ibs sufferers
MyStar86, your correct it is confusing. One way to simplify it is to use nutritional yeast if your not sensitive to yeast products or have a allergy to it. Look for a non-GMO , non fortified, gluten free and vegan friendly available in flakes and tablets that allows flexability in how you use it. .
Hey so sorry to hear that you're struggling!! Been there too. It may be possible that you're experiencing symptoms of IBS which is a common digestive disorder. However, other conditions can also cause similar symptoms, so it's important to get a proper diagnosis.
In the meantime, there are some things you can do to help manage your symptoms. You can try making changes in youe diet or trying low fodmap diet and managing your stress.
It seems to me that there are several things this could be in addition to, or instead of IBS. The inside of your rectum should be examined. This type of soreness is not an IBS symptom in my experience. A colo rectal surgeon can check this. You should definitely see a gastroenterologist. It is possible that it is a form of IBS, but my reaction is that there is something else going on in conjunction with,, or in addition to IBS. x
The good news is that you had a colonoscopy in 2021. There is also something called proctitis which affects the rectal area. You should not have to live with this kind of physical discomfort, coupled with the worry and uncertainty. I would see a gastroenterologist for a start. If you are able to go privately I would do that. Otherwise, see if you can go to a different GP and be very clear about your symptoms, level of pain, etc and insist on a referral. Let us know how you get on. I have a lot of GI problems too, and know the misery and worry they can cause. xx
Hello, I echo the thiamine sentiment above as if anything it should help with your mood. Diverticular disease is a pain because it can inhibit the absorption of different vitamins so I recommend something to south the digestive tract such as aloe vera juice. Furthermore, berberine can help firm up your stools and may also help with the wind problem. I am a herbalist so please feel free to send me a direct message if you would like any particular advice. I offer the service currently of free herbal advice in response for people allowing me to use their info (de-identified) as case studies.
hi I have a condition called bile acid malabsorption. I was told I had IBS for years - a lot of people are misdiagnosed. Look at bad-uk.org website for information. I got diagnosed by Gastro and a sehcat scan.
Hi , By no means an expert but understand you are worried. I wonder if some of your symptoms are due to hemorroids connected to IBS D.
I have sometimes experienced some symptoms similar to your description and have hemorroids. If you have D it can cause this and I think some of the feelings you are experiencing. Some of your symptoms like D after eating , are not uncommon with IBS and possibly related to fast transit , sort of gut -brain type thing , where eating caused you to need to go and empty. I also get this from time to time .
Probably safer to get it checked by a doctor but I wrote this because I think you are very worried . Stress does not help with D and that results in the other symptoms . The other symptoms connected to the anus etc , might simply be piles and although unpleasant not quite as worrying .
Hope this helps a little and maybe just get a doctor to check it out .
Hey! So sorry to hear that you're experiencing these symptoms and that they are impacting your quality of life. It sounds like you may be experiencing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), but it's important to get a proper diagnosis from a healthcare professional.
