Hi I was diagnosed with IBS over 20 years ago and have had flare ups over time. However over the last 4/5 month had a number of occasions where I have had to run to the toilet and sometimes not made it which has been very embarrassing.
I do get some pain / well discomfort on the right side lower pelvic area where I have a hysterectomy scar and sometimes get a hot poker type pain in the left side , corner of the transverse colon to the descending colon.
The last couple of days I have been experiencing more discomfort all round my colon. I have been eating lots of salted nut and cashew nut over Christmas. Does anyone else suffer with eating nuts and have problems with pain? I also do not have a gall bladder.
I was wondering if taking Buscapan would help and if I should get this checked out again as I have convinced myself something more is wrong.

look at bad-uk.org website as without a gallbladder you’re more likely to have bile acid malabsorption (or bile acid diarrhoea it’s sometimes called) rather than IBS. Gallbladder removal is one of the causes as the bile, usually held in the gallbladder and is released when needed, is now just dripping. More bile is produced to digest certain foods, fat being the main one, so you must follow a low fat diet. Nuts are very high in fat. I can’t eat anything fatty, not even good fats like oily fish, all go straight through me. I take colesevelam tablets which are prescribed, they are bile sequestrant drugs, and also loperamide (anti diarrhoea tablets). I take 4 of each a day as I was going to the toilet multiple times a day but now just once or twice. Look at website and speak to doctor about a trial of drugs, they are allowed to prescribe colestyramine (but only a consultant can prescribe colesevelam) and a referral to gastro to see if they will do a sehcat scan which will show how much bile etc.
I have had IBS all my life but only had problems with eating nuts the last 3 or 4 years. I used to love walnuts, but even the finely chopped ones in a carrot cake irritate my bowels. Now I stick to smooth peanut butter. I also have the burning left side pain you mention, but have diverticular problems, so it's out with the nuts and anything with seeds.
Get it checked out if you are over 40yrs old before taking any anti-spads I have poss Endo scar tissue that has caused me probs on the right hand sidem
Hello
Have had IBS for over 20 years and never had a problem eating nuts, but i know if i eat to much of anything it sets me off. Are you maybe eating to many nuts?
All the same issues as you. I think it’s adhesions due to surgery. Bits of me stuck to other bits that pull when I’m a bit full. I’ve had a sigmoid resection as well after cancer diagnosis. Just to add to the mix.
I would have to say that I think nuts help me with IBS, but everyone is different. Many people have trouble with coffee and I thankfully dont. Possibly the pain is related to the surgery, I have a scar on the left side from hernia surgery and occassionally it plays up but I could easily think its an IBS pain.
On the other hand, my IBS has played up a fair bit over christmas and I think its the different routine thats the culprit!
