trapped wind and bloating

I seem to be suffering with terrible trapped wind and gas to the point I can’t stand straight. Usually from lunchtime. Does anyone have any remedies that actually work. I take all sort of over the counter medicine but never goes until the next morning

Try Gaviscon Advance oral suspension and also sip half a cup of boiled water. That's what helped me when I suffered with the same. If it continues get checked out by gp. Hope you feel better soon

Food grade peppermint oil might help. I don't know for sure, but maybe it's available in Boots? I used to get it from the chemist's but haven't bought any for ages.

Just a couple of drops or maybe three, in a teacup of hot water. Maybe even a strong peppermint tea? A peppermint tea is my usual go-to. 2 bags to one cup.

I hate trapped wind. Sometimes lying flat and doing a tummy massage with nice slow deep belly-breathing helps me, and sometimes going for a gentle walk for about 30 minutes.

I had trapped wind today so feel what you're going through!

Doing all those things shifted the wind for me. I hope the ideas might help you too. If not...back to the drawing board.

Ginger tea , Peppermint tea and regular water through the day can help.Try abdominal massage for the bowel , you use the heel of the palm of your hand and pressing gently do circles from the belly button expanding outward in an anticlockwise motion. Do this three or four times each session. It can be useful to do about an hour after a meal.

It is hard to know which medications to advice without knowing if you have other digestive symptoms going on like stomach acid , diarrhea or constipation. It can make a difference to what it is safe to use.

Probiotic live yoghurt can help settle the stomach and reduce gut bacteria that may be causing the bloating and wind. Good for breakfast with a little honey and fruit or nuts if you can eat them. It also makes a good pre meal dip with veggies or crackers if mixed with herbs , spices , Avacado or tomato puree to settle stomach acid .

Try eating five smaller lighter meals instead of three big ones as big meals can often cause more symptoms.

Try reducing foods high in insoluble fibre but include foods with soluble fibre . This helps bowel regularity while reducing constipation and diarrhea that can cause more wind . Drink water regularly through your meal .

You may benefit from just one Turmeric capsule a day if you can use it with your medications or health history. Get checked by the GP to see if you are able to take , or it would be useful to have Buscopan or another type of medication to help trapped wind.

If you take laxatives regularly try not to and use natural laxatives only when constipated instead.

It might be advisable to ask to be checked for gluten or lactose intolerance , and coeliac as these are regularly causes of bloating and painful trapped wind associated with food.

Some people are not gluten free but can have extreme bloating from eating foods that may contain yeast or fungus ( there's some odd ones including peanut , rice , oats and coffee).

A daily vitamin and mineral supplement taken after the fattiest meal of the day can improve general nutrient levels that helps various body functions.

Taking a quick relaxed stroll for a few minutes before and after a meal can help reduce bloating and trapped wind. Doing Kegle exercises through the day are easy just sitting around but they help improve intestinal muscle strength which can be a cause for you not managing to pass wind easily through your system( you can get a download specific to Men or Women off the NHS direct website).

Gentle stretching exercises , walking and swimming or aqua exercise can all , even if done for a few minutes each day improve stomach health and gas movement in the body.

Have you kept a food diary?

It could be that certain foods cause your symptoms not just gluten or lactose.

Cut out processed foods and ready meals and processed sugar should only be kept to occasional small treats.

Finally , if it continues try an elimination diet to try and spot exactly which foods or drinks cause you more bloating then remove those from your diet.

Some foods are definitely more likely to make a lot of gas in your belly. Things like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, artichokes, onions, peas, and lentils, baked beans etc. Those foods are notorious for it. I don't know if you are even able to eat any of those, but maybe you do?

Or maybe you have eaten some product that contains any of these?

I am able to eat broccoli in small amounts, but even though it doesn't seem to do any harm to my toilet habits, I will pass more wind in the evening after eating it.. Though normally I can cope with that.

Have you tried the low Fodmap diet?

Deflatine but you might need to take 2 tablets followed by 2 tablets more if things don't improve; also fennel tea or chewing fennel seeds

I have IBS so I'm familiar with the oftentimes severe pain. One thing that has helped is heat. I plug in a heating pad and place it on my stomach. Lie down on your left side and you might expel some trapped gas easier.

it’s awful isn’t it , I get it too , I take MMC ease it’s like Iberogast, it helps & also I take Biotoxin Binder by Cellcore .

They are both a help , not life changing but I’ve found they ease the worst of the symptoms.

I find babies' gripe water helpful. A big couple of swallows and I find it eases within about half an hour.

Hi Beau1967 I sometimes suffer from terrible trapped wind for a day or two after taking Loperamide. I was advised to take Colpermin Capsules. I found them a bit of a help but didn't seem to work 100%.

I’ve tried all sorts peppermint tea buscopan. Windeze gaviscon I even have lansoprazole I can’t work it out. It’s every day starting just after lunch when I’m at work the wind that comes out of me is awful and I struggle to control it. I’ve had ibs since I was a child but it was always an anxiety thing but since I reached 50. I started to bloat with pain which never happened before. There’s always been certain foods that cause wind but I never bloated or got trapped wind . It makes me worry when I eat. It’s so difficult when your not at home I also take amitriptyline which helps with my bowel movements and I don’t really get so many tummy aches but I can still go between 3 and 5 times in the morning
