Could this be gastritis?

Have you experienced gnawing sensation in the pit of the stomach? The best way to describe the stomach sensation is like you are hungry but you aren't, a gnawing hunger sensation even after you just ate ?

Please share your experience. Thank you

Does it feel like your stomach is eating itself from the inside? I have pretty severe GERD along with IBS and that is one of my symptoms along with difficulty swallowing, chest pain, and a general feeling of fullness.

Thank you for sharing.

The best way I can describe it is, like being hungry minus hearing the grumbling noises. It's just in the pit of the stomach like a gnawing

It's not necessarily painful or burning, just unpleasant.

I'm sorry 😔

Haa the gastroenterologist offered any help?

Do you have any other symptoms besides this odd gnawing sensation?

I get lots of other symptoms Including pain In stomach and chest, bloating reflux. I take pantroprazole prescribed by a doctor that if I'm honest not much help.

Have you had an endoscopy? You might have an ulcer - I had one from taking too much ibuprofen over the years. And I had the gnawing pain that was only temporarily relieved by eating. After the endoscopy showed it, I was on some form of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) - just don't stay on it too long or you'll have rebound problems!

Hi Debbie, can I ask what you mean by rebound problems? Just I’ve had to go back on the omeprazole due to acid reflux pain yet it seems to make my ibs constipation worse 😏x

Just look up PPI acid reflux rebound. A lot of people get even worse acid reflux when they stop a PPI. I didn't and the only reason I think I didn't is that I didn't eat any bread or carbs for a few weeks.

Arh yes I understand now what you’re saying. A few years ago I’d been on two omeprazole a day for months and months. The consultant told me to wean myself off them as they were causing fundic polyps (don’t know what they are!)in my stomach. However he warned do it gradually because initially you will have an over load of acid in response. For a few weeks it was horrible and I was constantly sucking gaviscon. I am not happy to be back on them but I have been in so much pain I didn’t see an alternative 😏

I use a German product, Luvos Ultra, to control my acid reflux (plus sleeping on a raised bed; not just extra pillow - get a wedge from Amazon and put your pillows on that).

It's not cheap but it works; I've been using it since 2012. I pass all my endoscopies.

Read about fundic polyps on the internet! If they are small, they're not serious, but if they grow, they could be cancerous. Take care of yourself!

Thank you. Yes apparently they are tiny and was told of no concern. Yet why would medication to heal gastritis actually cause something harmful. Not good is it.

hi I have mild gastritis and tbh the pain varies from sharp stabbing pain to gnawing sensation under my left rib and also in the middle just below my chest. It varies in severity it can be mild or really server. Mine has been diagnosed via endoscopy so the doctor has checked this out and I’m on PPIs for 8 weeks. It does seem to be improving so fingers crossed. Anxiety doesn’t help as when I’m stressed it seems to be worse. Main thing is not to worry too much, I’ve had mine ongoing for circa 7 months but all been checked out, endoscopy, colonoscopy and CT scan so the Doc is confident that it’s nothing so I’m just now leaning to manage it.

Take care 😊
