passport interview

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question. I recently applied for a passport I live in the uk. Rather than any plans to go abroad it would be good to have one as id. I have got to the stage of the application where I now need to call them for an interview. It will be a journey on trains and tubes. I suffer really badly with IBS-D and am really worried that I might have an accident. The question is has anyone who suffers from this been allowed to do the interview online? Thank you for your time thinking of all the many sufferers out there. This illness is so debilitating.

Hi, I did this some years back and managed to get my doctor to write them a letter explaining that due to IBS I could not travel but needed the passport for id purposes. But as you say they may be able to do an online interview now. Good Luck!

Covid has changed a lot of things, and many situations were moved online, to video calls etc as a result. Working from home used to be for the few, and suddenly it was for the many. So maybe there might be an online option? Maureen's suggestion is a good one. Ask if a doctor's note might help.

I know it's an entirely different thing, but I was called for jury service in New Year. I wrote an email briefly explaining my awkward situation, flare ups etc, and asked what kind of evidence might they need from my doctor? I didn't want to bother the doctor with incomplete details. Well the Court wrote back to me and said I had been exempted. So it's always wise to ask them.

Hi, my son recently applied for his 1st ever passport and they asked him to go for interview. He was unable to get through for an appointment on phone as constantly busy and a pre-recorded message asked him to email onstead. So he emailed and got no response for few weeks. Then suddenly he received an email telling him he no longer needed an interview and they then sent him his passport within couple days. I heard of others with same scenario, so maybe this might prove to be the same for you and your worry about travelling will be over. ☺️

Thank you so much for your response. I’m going to call them tomorrow and go from there hopefully the outcome will be similar to your sons. ☺️
