I am currently a student at the University of Sheffield studying my undergraduate degree in sociology. As part of my final year research, I aim to explore how IBS affects women and their social relationships. More specifically, I am looking to explore issues surrounding disclosure, avoiding social situations, intimacy, body image and management. I am looking to interview female IBS sufferers. I’d also like to say that I’ve suffered with digestive illness from the age of 16, which has had an effect on many aspects of my life too. With this, I hope we can share some experiences and discuss what it is to be a woman with digestive illness.
Please look on the following link on the IBS network for more details:
Sounds like an interesting study. Would love to help out but I'm across the pond so I don't meet your criteria. Will you post the paper when you're done? I'd like to read it.
Hi there I'm in Sheffield and would love to help you, iv suffered for over 20 years with ibs and recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia I'm in chronic pain, fatigue the list is endless and this is affecting my everyday life .
Actually I don't have any experience of IBS effects with women and their relationship. But from my self experience it is very dis-comfortable and uneasy life. Presently I am somewhat under control by eliminating some foods and started taking some medicine (Maverine, Omiprazol, Fybogel & Bio-kult) with the consulting of GP. So if you have any suggestion please share.
I appreciate this and it's a very important point to make! I am looking specifically at the way in which societal expectations of being a woman affects individuals when they have IBS. I am hoping that in the future I can do the same for men too, given the time and resources. It's a relatively new area of research!
Hi I am a 33 year old female, and I would be very interested to help but will find it difficult to take anymore time off work. I have no HOLS left as all have been taken up for hospital appointments!! I suffer with FIBRO, EDS Hyper mobility, Severe IBS/Slow Transit Constipation, Raynauds, Allergies!! I am due to have a procedure done on the 3rd December 2014 with regards to the bowl should you be interested in that?? (I'm hoping this procedure will help otherwise I could be looking at a STOMA! I have suffered for 11+ years and I still do! Is it not possible to take part by post??
