Rifaximin is the antibiotic treatment for SIBO. However, since you get it back all the time I assume that antibiotics is the only thing you "did"? When treating SIBO and using antibiotics and not changing anything else (diet while on antibiotics and after, taking a prokinetic agent etc) usually leads to getting the problems back very quickly. You got SIBO for a/several reason(s), if you don't address the Cause you'll just keep getting it again. Read up on sibosurvivor.com or siboinfo.com, for example, to be ready to have a successful treatment this time 🙂 Especially the info about how to avoid relapse on siboinfo and all the info on antibiotic treatment on sibosurvivor. There Are other treatment options, which you can also read about on those pages (and others).

Also, the lactulose breath test (how you diagnose SIBO) shouldn't be performed until at least 2 weeks after last using antibiotics. Most practitioners usually demand 4 weeks minimum, to have an accurate test result.

Good luck!

what is a prokinetic agent please

A prokinetic agent stimulates the migrating motor complex. What that is and how it is important (and why you get sick again within weeks) you can read about on siboinfo.com under "treatment" and then "prevention of relapse".

Also, it makes a difference if you have SIBO C or D, as in hydrogen and/or methane SIBO. They should be treated differently to get good results.

Usually methane dominant SIBO makes you constipated and is called SIBO C. Hydrogen dominant SIBO usually gives you problems with diarrhoea and is called SIBO D.

Hydrogen SIBO is more common and easily treated. But you can treat methane type to, you just have to do it a little differently than with hydrogen type since there is a difference in "critters" in the intestine and they die from different things.

Why what happened

It immediately made my IBS worse and constipated. Read "of those tested positive for lactose intolerance, 27% experienced significantly worse IBS symptoms after the test. Better to try different eating approaches (dairy free, lactose free, low fibre to find which suits you best without going to the trouble and worry of tests".

Yesterday I had Iridology and Colonic Hydrotherapy, amazing what they can tell from the iris. Was told what foods suited me and those I had an intolerance to. I will be finding out as I experiment. Just had sardines on toast for breakfast, she recommended protein for breakfast - will buy some kippers for tomorrow's breakfast. She also recommends the Bowen Therapy (Google it).

I had repeated scripts and it is expensive but they have a PAP to get the meds for free if you qualify. Call Baush pharm and I ask. I get my Relistor free from them I am on SSDI
