Hi I’m relatively new to this ‘bowel game’ 😫. I haven’t been given an IBS diagnosis, but reading all the symptoms I think it must be what it is. If I don’t use a laxative I have problems going, but then after taking them I have lots of lower stomach pain. I also am suffering with back pain too at the same time. In your experience can this be connected? GP advises to just keep taking the Movicol but stomach is so tender too.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts

First thing I'd do is see a doc. There are other, more serious things that need to be eliminated before you can truly say you have IBS. Self-diagnosis can be dangerous.
Thanks. I did have a colonoscopy last year & they did find diverticulosis- nothing else untoward thankfully. But left in limbo now with GP advising to keep taking the movicol 🥴
Hello, I too get back pain , not nice I think it’s likely to be connected to the bowel pain as it flares up at the same time . Movicol can cause stomache ache and wind , been taking it for years , trying to get the dose right can be a pain x
Thanks for your response. I was wondering if it was the Movicol. I suppose if it’s trying to move ‘things’ along then it could cause a bit of pain/discomfort. I have been advised by GP to take two doses a day. Pain has eased off a bit today x
Thanks for your response. I did think I should have asked that question when I spoke to my GP about my symptoms, I forgot at the time. He said to try the Movicol again for a few weeks, so if i’m still the same after that will be asking more questions.
Hi don't think you should self diagnose yourself, see your GP. Write a list of questions to ask. If you are female some Gastro probs mimick Gyae probs. Wish you well😁
Funnily enough I did say to the GP (male) that my symptoms felt like period pains (I’ve been through the menopause so no fear of that!) but he dismissed it & put it down to constipation again. I will be contacting the surgery again if it doesn’t settle. Trouble is we’ve got more chance of meeting with Elvis at the moment 🙄 - it’s all done over phone & that’s if you can get through 🤬.
Hi Ally Each and everyone of us here has different symptoms than the next The range is wide Ask for a change to your meds if your not improving although medication has to be taken for a while before it sets in and relieves your symptoms You won’t get to feel any better if your worrying too it’s a vicious circle and one that you have to break by noting what foods and drink upset you It’s like trial and error Your surgery has a practice manager and if you feel your GP isn’t listening or helping ask her/him to speak to another GP within practice for you I am going to say Welcome to us We are a friendly strong and helpful bunch Don’t feel alone Don’t wait ask can you please be looked at with IBS in mind Meanwhile monitor what makes you feel worse pinpoint those and go from there I’m on Pantoprazole and Mebeverine and dare I say it am ok (at the moment) I take as much positivity as I can find It helps me be the Warrior I am
Thanks for your kind response. I will certainly be getting back in contact with my GP (well any GP who I can get to speak to at the moment) if things don’t settle down in a few weeks.
your very welcome Be firm with your GP surgery These people took an oath to help the sick they trained for it and get paid for doing a job so please assert your rights to be seen as someone who may or may not need their help You sound a strong person and that goes such a long way in coping with the IBS puzzle
