IBS C and acid reflux

Hi I’ve recently been having awful acid reflux (burning throat and foaming in the mouth which I think is connected) and long-standing IBS C. Has anyone else has this?

Hi yes I get both I'm on medication for the ibsc which is under control most of the time....but if I dont eat properly I get horrible reflux. Things that trigger it for me are fatty or spicy foods or if i over eat and if I drink to much alcohol. Has your Dr said you have ibs? If the reflux continues I would speak to gp about it.

Yes I have both. I take omeprazole for the acid , seems to help. My IBS C is not good, lot of pain and gas . Only eat bland food chicken, veg, etc. gaviscon after a meal helps too. Not been taking a laxative, but dr recommends I start, as not improving.

Hi your post applies to me too!Although after taking omeprazole for 7 years I have stopped them this past few months. I was advised after an endoscopy I didn’t need them as my issues are ibs related. I do think there’s a connection between both issues but if I get acid now I just take gaviscon tablets.

Hi Yes have both with gallstones as well. I tried adding more fibre but only made me more bloated but did get my bowels moving. Gaviscon adds to the constipation and PPI’s caused increased colon and stomach pain. I stopped the PPI’s and went back to my normal low fat low acid diet but added Bimuno powder and it has stopped the constipation and stomach pain. It has taken a while to work out the best dose for me, I take a third of a packet in my porridge everyday. I was diagnosed with silent reflux and I am having more investigations for it.

Hi. I’m just like you. In sane tablets as u were on. Can’t get rid of stomach pains and seeing ur post here is making me think are the acid tablets causing the stomach pains to continue. It’s very concerning…….,

Hi, I thought this too! I have been on omeprazole for about 7 years but was advised after my endoscopy last year to come off them. They say my issues are all ibs related yet I was suffering terribly with acid and burning pain in my stomach. I think this can be caused by constipation and everything kind of backing up.So I have stopped taking them convinced they were possibly helping one thing and causing another 🤔.I just take gaviscon if I get acid pain now . I certainly don’t feel worse for coming off the ppi’s.

You mentioned you take Bimuno Powder. Has it been helping you with IBS-C? If so, which one do you take and where do you buy it from?

I have both. I found that following a FODMAP diet helped me identify problem food/drinks for both my IBSC and GERD. However, I am on lansoprazole for the GERD and can't get off it. I think my GERD is still partially triggered by yeast-accelerating agents or similar chemicals - a slice of bread (even gluten free) can trigger it, though something artisan is usually fine.

Are you eating acidic food? Coffee? Wine?

Hi,yes I have issues with both and I think they are related. However I have been advised to stop the omeprazole as the hospital say my issues are bowel related. So after 7 years of taking them I now just take gaviscon if I’m suffering with acid.It isn’t easy knowing what the solution is and I think it’s trial and error. I have very hard stools and sometimes painful passing them. I sometimes take Laxido for this if it gets really bad.So don’t worry you’re not alone in your suffering.x

I take omeprazole like many others. I stick to small meals, have nothing to eat after 6 pm, and try and keep fat content as low as possible. Also, spicy foods are a definite no-no. Have you been checked out for a hiatus hernia which can cause acid reflux and burning throat, etc?
