Have had IBS C on and off for a long time. But all flared up last October with reflux. Have seen the gastro consultant had all the cameras and scans etc. Nothing sinister found. Under gastro dietician. She gave me hyfiber to try for the constipation. That seems to be the main issue, my stools are hard lumps and have to use a micro enema to pass usually every two to three days, then I can feel uncomfortable with trapped wind. Have reflux mainly in the afternoon. Take gaviscon and omeprazole.
With a bland diet of mainly potato veg and chicken, some toast during the day. Have lost loads of weight cannot seem to gain any weight. Cannot see an end to this, having no quality of life, have not been out except for medical appointments. Does anyone else have a similar problem and how did you treat it. The reflux stops me doing and eating a lot of things.

The omeprazole won’t cure made me worse as when it wears off creates more acid which worsens reflux I’m off ppi meds now and worse state than ever weaned off as well I’m now only 3 weeks off and am like death it’s acid rebound diet is key is never want ppi meds again ruined my gut I also have am still weight loosing a lot Get off the ppi I say and control via diet no smoke or drink and light exercise
Hi sorry to hear that you’re feeling rubbish I’ve had reflux for the last 18 months since I gave up smoking had all the tests doctors just prescribe omeprazole but I’m not keen so I went onto decaf tea cut out wheat and dairy and touch wood not been so bad it’s the bloating and nausea that does me in how is your sleep?
I take a omeprazole before bed and usually sleep quite good. Have a bed with electric head raising. I get the worst reflux in the afternoon. Although have so much gas.
I'd cut out the toast - wheat is a major cause of both reflux and IBS-C for me as it has a lot of fructans which ferments in the gut. Give the low fodmap diet a try - it's the only thing which has completely worked for me. Makes it a lot easier to find things I can eat too. I switched from wheat to oats and I take ground psyllium husk to add to my fibre intake. I found omeprazole and all of the ppi's made me much much worse. They inhibit the production of stomach acid which makes your digestion sluggish and the build up of fermenting food in the gut causes the reflux and IBS discomfort. The raising of your bed head is a great idea and you will find if you can cultivate sleeping on your left side it greatly reduces acid reflux.
Yes, I am the same. Constipation since birth, currently under control (mostly) with Prucalopride (Reselor) & bisacodyl. Reflux started around 15 years ago. I have had numerous cameras down and up, my gallbladder removed, & I take lansoprazole. I never eat after 5pm and I eat a very bland diet similar to yours. It’s a miserable existence at times, cannot go out for an evening meal etc so family have to go without me or I go, but don’t eat. I’ve never smoked & haven’t drunk alcohol for 25 years. I miss lots of tasty foods very much, but the pain from the reflux means it is not worth eating them. I hope you manage to find a way to live/cope with it it or better still, find a way to cure it. Good luck 🤞
