Was wondering if anyone has tried 5HTP to help address visceral hypersensitivity?

Unfortunately, in my research I found out that 5HTP (serotonin) plays a lesser role in pain management:

Although selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, such as fluoxetine and sertraline, are first-line treatments for depression, their role in treating chronic pain is limited. This is most likely due to their sole activity on 5-HT receptors and lack of activity on NE receptors.

The overall impression is that SSRIs are less effective than other antidepressant options in the treatment of neuropathic pain.

To extrapolate, if SSRIs, which make serotonin more available in the brain, aren't particularly effective at controlling neuropathic pain, I'd expect taking 5HTP wouldn't help so much either.

Hi xjrs, thanks for replying with info, I had read some interesting research which showed it could be helpful so I thought I’d ask if anyone had tried.

My G.P won’t help at present so I’m up for trying, tho I know it can’t b that simple, I’ll just see if they can make any sort of difference. Hopefully without making me worse!
