IBS-D & yeast/candida connection?

37 M here. I've always been prone to toenail fungus and jock itch. In 2008 I was finally put on a long course (6 months) of antibiotics to treat the toenails. Shortly afterwards in 2009 I wen through a very stressful legal battle and began to have digestion issues -loose bowels, having to run to bathroom after/during eating etc.

I continued to have the digestive issues and am still struggling with them. I had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and MRI in 2017 and they all came back clear. I don't have celiac disease and don't have food allergies but still my digestion is not right.

I finally figured out I might have an overgrowth of candida due to the antibiotics all those years ago and have tried probiotics which don't help a whole lot.

Just wondering if anybody else is here because of antibiotics and if they were ever able to get their system back on track again?

Thanks

Hi Andy, have you considered Bile Acid Malabsorption? This would fit with you having to go during or straight after meals and your Sibo. gutscharity.org.uk/advice-a...

Hi Andy,

I had a similar issue, and used the supplement “Dida” to clear my gut yeast overgrowth. Have felt so much better and more regular after years of digestive and loose bowel issues. You can get it on Amazon: New Nordic Dida Tablets, 90-Count amazon.co.uk/dp/B0013G6QBW/...

Hope this helps.

Hi, sorry i know this comment was a long time ago but i am searching the forum for advice. How did you know you had an overgrowth? And did you have to follow the strict Candida diet along with taking the supplements? Or did you find the supplements was enough to help on their own?

Thank you :)

Hi, No problem 🙂 My GP suggested an overgrowth after relaying the symptoms to them. I didn't follow the strict candida diet, but just took the supplements for 2 months, after which - my symptoms went away. If I do get the occasional flare every 3 months or so, taking the supplements seems to do the trick. I'm not very good with strict diets (already a Coeliac and Lactose intolerant, so my diet is strict enough without more on top). Hope this helps!

That is good to know, thank you! I already don't eat dairy, and have cut down on gluten. Cutting out the rest of it looks an absolute nightmare! Due to go to Glastonbury next week and dreading what i can/can't eat.. and the toilet situation!

I hear you! Well the Dida tablets I take should definitely help regulate the toilet situation if you start taking them this week, as it is the easiest way to gently calm down the gut over a period of days before you go away. 2 a day with meals should help, and once your gut calms down, 1 a day should be fine. The toilet situation should be much easier to manage by then. You can also get those supplements from Holland & Barretts if you don't fancy buying from Amazon. All the best!

P.s. I've just checked, and because of thankfully, more festival goers being vegan - Glastonbury are offering more food options, and saying that specific dietary requirements can be catered for by many of our traders. So I reckon you should be fine (glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/.... Also worth taking some Kind snack/protein bars (kindsnacks.co.uk/products/all) and Peperami sticks (if you're not vegan/vegetarian) - as they can be an excellent gluten free life saver. 🙂
