Hi, I had a barium swallow test during the process of being diagnosed with IBS, as I had a lot of upper GI tract symptoms. I was told almost immediately that there were no issues, such as any obstructions or narrowed areas, and that peristalsis (muscle movement) was fine. As it turned out my upper GI tract symptoms were mainly due to a chronically infected gall bladder which was also full of gallstones - I would recommend that you ask for tests for that and for BAM (Bile Acid Malabsorption), as they often get overlooked and diagnosed as IBS. Hope everything goes well.

I had a barium enema many years ago which showed that I had a tortuous colon i.e. a colon that it much longer than it should be which is apparently sth that you are born with and there is no treatment for it so now I have to put up with really horrible ibs symptoms.
